Oscar Winner Ennio Morricone to Perform at London's The O2, 10 Dec
Having sold-out dates across Europe, Ennio Morricone will perform at The O2 in London in December at the end of this year. The legendary composer is bringing his "My Life in Music - World Tour" to the iconic venue on Wednesday 10th December.
The most prolific composer in the history of film music will conduct repertoire from the greatest works of his career, spanning more than over 50 years, performing with a 160 member symphony orchestra and polyphonic choir.
Ennio Morricone is a five-time Oscar nominee who has scored over 500 films, including the classic westerns including "For A Few Dollars More" and "The Good The Bad and the Ugly" as well as other iconic movies such as: "The Untouchables", "The Mission", "Cinema Paradiso" and more recently being featured in Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and before that "Kill Bill". Last year Morricone won the European Film Award for Best Composer for his score of the Giuseppe Tornatore movie "The Best Offer".
Maestro Morricone is the only composer ever to win the prestigious "Honorary Oscar" award (2007) in recoginition of his "magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film music".He was also nominated for a further five Oscars throughout his career and has won: Two Grammy Awards, two Golden Globes, five BAFTAs, seven David di Donatello Award, eight Nastro d'Argento Awards as well as the Polar Music Prize. In 2009 the President of France bestowed him with the prestigious Legion d'honneur.
Morricones' extraordinarily diverse musical approach draws from classical, jazz, pop, rock, electronic, avant-garde, and indigenous Italian music. He has amplified thecinematic atmosphere with his ingenious use of diverse arrangements and instrumentation. The compositions for Sergio Leone's westerns were created through multiple mediums such as Jew's harps, dissonant harmonicas, dancing piccolos, bombastic church organs, eerie whistling, thundering trumpets alongside ballads for gunslingers and ghostly vocal choruses.
Having performed in such prestigious venues as the Great Hall in Bejing, the General Assembly Hall of the UN in New York and the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Kremlin in Moscow and the Arena di Verona, the concert at The O2 is an unmissable opportunity to experience the astounding work of this musical genius.
