Good Night Out Presents the World Premiere of SUBS By R.J. Purdey 25th July - 14th August 2010 (PRESS NIGHT: Tuesday 27th JULY at 7pm)

Directed by Hamish Macdougall, Designed by Jemima Carter-Lewis

"People ask what you do and you say: I'm a sub. Funny word: like being a substitute. You're sitting on the subs' bench and just hoping one day they'll give you a game."

In the sub-editing office of a stylish men's magazine the team work on their monotonous duties of correcting spelling and creating headlines. Chief Sub-Editor Derek is pinning his hopes on a promotion to escape the office.

His deputy Finch is stuck in a despondent rut and spends his time browsing internet porn. Then the unthinkable happens, a confident young woman joins the office... it's time for some changes round here.

Director HAMISH MACDOUGALL is the Literary Associate at The c*ckTavern Theatre. Directing credits include: Nightsongs (Cock Tavern); Urban Chic Saved My Life (Cockpit Theatre); 4.48 Psychosis; The Cell (both Arts Ed) and Dancing with Darwin (RIBA centre). As Assistant Director: Shrunk (Cock Tavern); Guy Fawkes Night (Twenty Four Hour Plays/ Old Vic) and Tits/Teeth (Soho Theatre). He is a founding member of theatre company The Rogues Gallery and co-produces their monthly new writing night Rogue Writers at the Canal Café Theatre. Hamish will be directing UK premiere of The Under Room in the Edward Bond retrospective.
The press on Hamish Macdougall for Nightsongs:

"Director Hamish MacDougall has a sure grasp on his material" THE STAGE
"Credit is due to MacDougall for bringing out the poetic quality" BRITISH THEATRE GUIDE

"Nightsongs is well executed by both the cast and their director, MacDougall" WHAT'S ON STAGE

THE c*ckTAVERN THEATRE won the prestigious Dan Crawford Pub Theatre Award at the Peter Brook Empty Space Awards. Formed in January 2009, under the artistic leadership of Adam Spreadbury-Maher the theatre runs a bold programme of new writing alongside select revivals. Resident theatre company Good Night Out Presents was formed in August 2008. Credits include the Time Out Critics' Choice productions of Studies for a Portrait (White Bear and transfers to Oval House and King's Head) and The York Realist (Riverside Studios). Adam begins his first season as Artistic Director at the King's Head Theatre in autumn 2010; Good Night Out Presents will be the resident company at both theatres. Resident company OperaUpClose's production of La Boheme ran for a record-breaking 5 months this year, it transferred to Soho Theatre in July.
