I'll admit that what encouraged me to see Kerry Gilbert's one woman show was the image on her flier. Going by how much you like someone's flier is certainly a risky strategy for choosing your Edinburgh Fringe shows, but one that can ultimately pay off when faced with the hundreds of shows on offer.

Kerry Gilbert Gives Love a Bad Name is a character show, and she manages to slip between the characters she portrays with ease, changing between everything from a very plain, anorak-wearer to a sultry French girl, smouldering as she relives young love. The characters are distinct, cleverly-written and well-performed, and each one illustrates something different about the underlying theme of the show; love, and the ways we try to attain it.

While some characters are stronger than others, in general it's an entertaining show which is well worth seeing. If it's any indication of her talents, Kerry Gilbert will undoubtedly be someone to watch on the comedy scene in years to come.
