This contemporary adaptation of the Anglo-Saxon epic had a completely sold-out run at Brighton Fringe in 2014, so is returning this year to a larger venue with twice as many performances in order to continue to delight local audiences with its special blend of table-top and shadow puppetry, live music, and poetry.

The show has also been redeveloped this year with a smaller cast, so even returning audiences will find something new to enjoy. The new cast includes established professional local puppeteers Annie Brooks (Artistic Director of Colossal Crumbs) and Orlando Britts (creator of last year's award-winning performance, The Fantastic Foulplay Foxhunt).

Tom Dussek revives his role as the Poet narrating the action and giving each puppet their own unique voice and style. He can also be seen as part of the Brighton Festival this year with his Just William show at the Pavilion Theatre. Paul Mosley (who has worked with members of Cousteau and Florence and the Machine) also returns to provide the astonishing multi-instrument live score.

The puppets are designed and built by Daisy Jordan of Barely Human Puppets, and the show is directed by Andy Cresswell (Young Vic, Royal Court, BBC) and written by Craig Jordan-Baker (Theatre Royal Brighton). This year it's being co-produced by Mill Goble of Atomic Force Productions, whose previous shows in Brighton, London, and Edinburgh have played to critical acclaim and won awards.

Beowulf is aimed at adults and families with older children (10+). Families with younger children (7+) should try out the same company's new show, The Tale of Tommy O'Quire, which is also being performed at The Dukebox Theatre during the Fringe.

Last year some of the Beowulf performances sold out completely in advance, and an extra performance had to be added to meet demand, so make sure you book quickly this year to guarantee yourself a ticket!
