Spoleto Festival USA Announces Programming for 2010 Season

The Spoleto Festival 2010 has announced its performance schedule for its 2010 season which will be held from May 28 to June 13.

Amongst the programming will be the operatic works 'Philemon and Baucis', composed by Franz Joseph Haydn; 'Flora', an Opera orchestrated by Neely Bruce after 18th-century songs, and the American premiere of 'Proserpina', composed by Wolfgang Rihm and conducted by John Kennedy.

Musical theatre performances will also take the stage with 'Die Roten Puntke', 'Present Laughter,' and 'Block Ice & Propane' amongst other works. Dance performances will include 'Lucinda Child's Dance', 'I Can See Myself in Your Pupil', The National Ballet of Georgia's 'Giselle', danced by Nina Ananiashvili, and 'Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo'.

Jazz vocalists Lizz Wright, the Norma Winstone Trio, Leszek Mozdzer, Julian Lage, Fabiana Cozza and Nailor 'Proveto' Azevedo, will also be featured performers.

The festival will also showcase the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra in 'Beethoven / Mozart / Wagner',  conducted by EmManuel Villaume, 'Mozart / Brahms / Verdi' conducted by Joseph Flummerfelt, and the Westminster Choir Concerts.

Other special events, including conversations with festival artists hosted by Martha Teichner are also expected.
