TheaterWorksUSA's world premiere of the musical adaptation of Cat Kid Comic Club series by Dav Pilkey opens today, Sunday, July 30, at 3 PM. The limited run is written by the award-winning team of Kevin Del Aguila (book and lyrics) and Brad Alexander(music), with direction and choreography by Marlo Hunter and musical direction by Paul Staroba, and runs through August 27, 2023 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. REPRISE 2.0 (led by Producing Artistic Director Marcia Seligson), in association with the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television's Department of Theater (UCLA TFT) chaired by Brian Kite, presents its inaugural production of Sweet Charity.  Directed and choreographed by Kathleen Marshall with musical direction by Gerald Sternbach, the classic Broadway hit plays through July 1 at UCLA's Freud Playhouse. Daniel J. Watts (Hamilton, TBS' upcoming 'The Last O.G.,' Signature Theatre's The Death of The Last Black Man in the Whole Entire World) and WattsWords Productions presented Daniel J. Watts' THE JAM: Only Child, an evening of music, dance and spoken word, on Monday, February 19 at Joe's Pub at The Public at New York's famed Public Theater (425 Lafayette Street).  Watts was joined by DJ Duggz, aka Preston Dugger III (Motown the Musical, Memphis), the pair performed for a sold out house. 

Chris Jenkins returns to Park Theatre in the role of Jon, following his appearance in 2016's quadruple Offie Award-nominated musicalThe Burnt Part Boys in PARK90. Gillian Saker (BBC Two's Ripper Street) performs the role of Jon's girlfriend Susan, with Jordan Shaw (Motown The Musical, Shaftesbury Theatre) playing the part of Michael, Jon's childhood friend.

Motown The Musical, which recently celebrated its first birthday in London, is currently booking at the Shaftesbury Theatre to 24 February 2018. With music and lyrics from the Motown catalogue and book by Motown founder Berry Gordy, the production features a sixteen-piece orchestra playing 50 Motown tracks including Ain't No Mountain High Enough, I'll Be There, Dancing In The Street, Stop! In The Name Of Love, My Girl and I Heard It through the Grapevine. Charles Randolph-Wright's production tells the story behind the classic hits. Check out brand-new production shots below!

Tommy Mottola, the Dodgers, Tribeca Productions, and Evamere Entertainment just announced that the Original Broadway Cast Album of A Bronx Tale was recorded in New York City today, January 9. Jukebox musicals seem to be as popular as ever in the West End, using familiar songs to tell stories on stage. Mamma Mia! is coming close to two decades in London, and newcomers like Motown the Musical are extending their runs. With audiences returning year after year, there is unquestionably an audience for ABBA. Licensed to Ill raises a question which a different band faced: is there an audience for the Beastie Boys? When I first heard there was a musical about this hip-hop group, I'll admit I questioned whether there was an audience for the show itself. Well, 'Ch-Check It Out': there is. This evolution of the Beastie Boys is a revolution for the London stage and storytelling.

Rehearsals are underway for the Broadway premiere of A BRONX TALE THE MUSICAL, the new musical featuring a book by Academy Award nominee Chazz Palminteri, music by Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award winner Alan Menken, and lyrics by Grammy Award winner and Oscar and Tony Award nominee Glenn Slater, co-directed by two-time Oscar winner Robert De Niro and four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks, with choreography by Tony nominee Sergio Trujillo. A BRONX TALE THE MUSICAL begins previews Thursday, November 3 and open Thursday, December 1 at the Longacre Theatre (220 West 48th Street).

Last night (19 October 2016), Duke Fakir, the last remaining original member of legendary Motown group The Four Tops, attended the performance of Motown the Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre and joined the West End cast on stage for the finale when he and the company received a standing ovation from the sell-out audience.

The Old Globe presents the West Coast premiere of OCTOBER SKY, which will blast off the Globe's 2016-2017 Season with a tale of boys, rockets, and big dreams. OCTOBER SKY will run now through October 23, 2016 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in the Old Globe Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Arena Stage presents BORN FOR THIS: THE BeBe Winans STORY, the heartwarming true story of six-time Grammy Award-winning icon BeBe Winans' journey to fame. BORN FOR THIS, directed by celebrated director and playwright Charles Randolph-Wright (Motown The Musical), is a co-production with the ALLIANCE THEATRE in Atlanta, Ga., where the production ran April 13-May 15, 2016 prior to the Arena Stage production. The new musical, which officially kicks off Arena Stage's 2016/17 season, features original songs and Winans family hits, with a book by Randolph-Wright and Winans.
