In celebration of the reopening of Rock of Ages at the Helen Hayes Theatre, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister was honored with a certificate naming him the show's worldwide ambassador during a celebration held at Bowlmor Lanes Times Square this past Friday. Snider, whose music is featured in the hit Broadway show (‘I Wanna Rock' and ‘We're Not Gonna Take It'), recently played the character of 'Dennis' for an 11 week run before the show went dark last fall in anticipation of its move to the Helen Hayes Theatre.
After a breif hiatus, ROCK OF AGES re-opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway last night, March 24. The five-time Tony Award nominated musical played its final performance at The Brooks Atkinson Theatre on Sunday, January 9, 2011. The production moved houses to make way for RAIN, which had to vacate it's home at the Neil Simon Theatre to accommodate Catch Me If You Can. In a show of semi-permanent appreciation, ROCK OF AGES honored of one of its most dedicated fans and winner of its holiday 'Deck the Halls Extreme Rock' contest, Gavin Knox, this month. For the Christmas challenge, the production invited fans to submit a performance video of a holiday carol, sung in the rockin' style of the hit show. The winner was selected by ROCK OF AGES cast members, including Constantine Maroulis, Kerry Butler, and James Carpinello. The prize package included a pair of tickets to the performance, a backstage tour, a curtain call ovation, dinner for two at the Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square, a copy of the original cast recording, and a Temptu tattoo, applied by the show's make-up artist, worn by the cast members on stage each night.
