Its first time ever at Music Circus, the sizzling, sexy Kander and Ebb smash hit Chicago is the final show of the 2013 Music Circus season, with an extended run at the Wells Fargo Pavilion from August 20 - 29. The 1996 revival of this hit musical, one of the cornerstones of the choreographic Broadway legacy of Bob Fosse, won 6 Tony Awards and is still running on Broadway. With a plot centered on murderesses Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, on death row together fighting for the fame that may keep them from the gallows, the show features a number of popular songs including 'All That Jazz,' 'Razzle Dazzle' and 'Cell Block Tango.' Today in 1999, Fosse opened at the Broadhurst THeatre, where it ran for 1093 performances. Fosse is a three-act musical revue showcasing the choreography of Bob Fosse. The original Broadway production, conceived and directed by Richard Maltby, Jr. and Ann Reinking was choreographed by Reinking and Chet Walker. In 2002, Fosse, featuring Reinking and Ben Vereen, was aired as part of the Great Performances series on PBS television. A London production opened at the West End Prince of Wales Theatre on February 8, 2000 and closed January 6, 2001. The musical did not recreate the musical numbers as originally presented but instead had primarily black-and-white costumes (including the all-important hats), set against a simple setting.

On this week's So You Think You Can Dance, top 10 finalist Alex Wong and all-star partner Lauren Gottlieb endeavored to venture out of their comfort zone and tackle a Broadway-style number by Tyce Diorio. In the rehearsal footage beforehand, Diorio said that it's 'Broadway inspired by the Fosse style but with [his] take on it.' Wong, primarily a ballet dancer, however, did not hit a high note with the SYTYCD judges, who suggested lacked the looseness and heat to truly represent Foose. On the episode, judge Nigel Lythgoe suggested Wong watch KISS ME, KATE and THE LITTLE PRINCE for inspiration.
