BWW Reviews: RECKLESS by Craig Lucas is Both Ponderous and PointlessBWW Reviews: RECKLESS by Craig Lucas is Both Ponderous and Pointless
by Frank Benge - Nov 24, 2014

Reckless, by Craig Lucas, wants to be a black comedy. The script, written in a cinematographic style, poses some serious problems in staging. For something so paper thin to work, the audience needs to go on the same nightmare downhill sleigh ride as the protagonist. We need to feel as buffeted by the play itself as she does by the events of the play. Unfortunately, the staging of this production is weighed down by numerous lengthy scene changes on what is a minimalistic set. These numerous changes bog the evening down and what should be a barrage of insanity ends up being a few humorous moments. The cartoon craziness this script cries out for never really happens. Syngenta GMO Lawsuit News: Lawsuits Continue To Mount With More Than 50 Filed Nationwide Against Syngenta Over Its GMO Corn Seed, The Oliver Law Group P.C. Reports.Syngenta GMO Lawsuit News: Lawsuits Continue To Mount With More Than 50 Filed Nationwide Against Syngenta Over Its GMO Corn Seed, The Oliver Law Group P.C. Reports.
by BWW News Desk - Nov 20, 2014

Syngenta GMO Lawsuit News: The Oliver Law Group P.C. reports that more lawsuits are being filed against Syngenta over its genetically modified (GMO) corn seed that agribusinesses and exporters allege have caused them to lose money due to China's refusal to buy the product. According to a report from the Associated Press, more than 50 Syngenta GMO lawsuits have been filed against Syngenta and “hundreds more” are expect to be filed. The Syngenta GMO lawsuits allege that China's refusal to import the GMO product because it contains Agrisure Viptera has cost farmers more than $1 billion. The Associated Press further reported that China, a major importer of American corn, has not agreed to purchase a GMO product that it has not tested. According to the report, Syngenta contends that the lawsuits do not have merit and “upholds the right of farmers to use approved new technologies.” (foxbusiness.com/markets/2014/11/17/dozens-lawsuits-filed-over-syngenta-release-gmo-corn-seed-that-china-refuses-to/, November 17, 2014) (more...)

Bookworks Presents Its November Edition of IT'S ABOUT BOOKSBookworks Presents Its November Edition of IT'S ABOUT BOOKS
by BWW News Desk - Nov 18, 2014

It is all about how an author carefully and purposely beckons each word to each page until those words pull together into a magnificent creation having a life of its own. The book I am reviewing,All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, is one such masterful creation. Don't wait for the paperback, don't wait for the movie, buy the book, now. Buy it as a gift, buy it for yourself, insist that your book club adds it to the list of must reads. Read it when you have the time to savor each and every word that has been so carefully placed. This book puts to shame many of the other books I have read this year. The characters, the story line, the settings, the time periods, the premise and purpose that stand behind the book are knitted together flawlessly, satisfying the reader completely. Every sentence is fraught with beautiful imagery. (more...)
