Spoiler Alert! Recap and Review: THE AFFAIR is All Kinds of Cliche and AnnoyanceSpoiler Alert! Recap and Review: THE AFFAIR is All Kinds of Cliche and Annoyance
by Matt Tamanini - Oct 12, 2014

When I first heard about Showtime's new drama THE AFFAIR, I was a bit confused. The majority of the premium channel's new shows boast a major star in the lead; William H. Macy in SHAMELESS, Don Cheadle in HOUSE OF LIES, Liev Schreiber in RAY DONOVAN, Matt LeBlanc in EPISODES… ok maybe they don't all have a big star. However, the most well-known actor in THE AFFAIR is Charlie Conway, Pacey Witter, Peter Bishop, Joshua Jackson, and he's not even one of the main stars. That dubious honor belongs to THE WIRE's Dominic West and LUTHER's Ruth Wilson. Also rounding out the main characters is the always delightful, but hardly a household name, Maura Tierney. (more...)

BWW Reviews: JERSEY BOYS - An Electrifying Entertaining EveningBWW Reviews: JERSEY BOYS - An Electrifying Entertaining Evening
by Frank Benge - Mar 27, 2015

The 60's were an exciting time for music in America, due in no small part to the proliferation of groups with amazing vocal harmonies like The Mamas & Papas, The Beach Boys, Spanky & Our Gang and The Four Seasons. JERSEY BOYS is a jukebox musical based on the song catalog of The Four Seasons; however, unlike most jukebox musicals, JERSEY BOYS features an intelligent script where the songs flow with the story instead of being forced into a storyline. I suspect the participation of Rick Elice, who was also one of the scriptwriters for the charming and witty PETER AND THE STARCATCHER had more than a little to do with the intelligence and theatrical storytelling skill on display here. I can see going to Venice for the food, for Lido's beaches and for the Gondolas. Heck, I'd go to the Jersey shore for two of the three. Why would you go to Venice for Contemporary art? The 55th Venice Biennale opened on June 1 and runs through November 24th; 88 countries have pavilions including the Vatican in this art world equivalent of the world cup for soccer socialites. Is it worth the trip, who can afford to treck the art trade show route and what's it all about-Alfie? (more...)
