Spoiler Alert! Recap and Review: THE VOICE Battle Rounds Night One 10/13; Full Results and Pictures!Spoiler Alert! Recap and Review: THE VOICE Battle Rounds Night One 10/13; Full Results and Pictures!
by Matt Tamanini - Oct 13, 2014

Well, tonight is the night when I generally begin to lose interest in NBC's juggernaut singing competition THE VOICE. As we transition from the ever compelling Blind Auditions to the generally disappointing Battle Rounds, it always annoys me that so much time and attention is focused on the coaches and the guest mentors. Yes, I love the fact that the singers are getting expert tutelage, but the show's attention should be, you know, on the contestants. While this is the only area where THE VOICE doesn't rise to the level of AMERICAN IDOL, for me, it has often been a deal breaker. I never feel the connection to THE VOICE contestants that I do to those on IDOL. Hopefully now that I am reviewing every single performance, I will actually get invested in some of the singers. by BWW News Desk - Jan 5, 2015

In a volatile Galaxy that is light-years from Earth, Theodore Crane thrusts himself and his broken crew into desolate conditions, vowing to find two valuable allies who were lost in battle. Meanwhile, the war between two all-powerful demigods continuesthe tyrannical Odion spreads his empire and the despotic Zane stalks Theodore through a shroud of resistance known as the Opposition. Due to recent failures, the Opposition must retrench in order to rid the universe of the two demigods who are threatening the freedoms of the Galaxy. Theodore must help the Opposition's freedom fighters find hope. Along his journey, Theodore and his crew learn of an all-powerful omnipotent mainframe, Eppa. Records of her existence suggest that she sees and records everything. If Theodore can locate Eppa, he may shift the fate of the Galaxy. 'The Ghost of Sephera' is a rollicking space adventure to be enjoyed by readers age twelve and up, and explores universal questions such as: Do incredible nano-engineered particles with great intelligence have the same freedoms and rights as the peoples of the galaxy? If time travel was a reality throughout the galaxy, how do we hunt down and apprehend violators? Is a vast repository with unlimited knowledge, one that records every single second since the beginning of Time and discerns every decision ever made, too powerful to exist? Book one, 'The Acolytes of Crane' (ISBN: 978-1482547580) was published in early 2013 and is a story about a boy who sees beyond himself and into the galaxy. The author wrote 'The Acolytes of Crane' to raise awareness of child abuse and encourage children to battle through difficult challenges. 'The Ghost of Sephera' and 'The Acolytes of Crane' are available in both print and ebook format. Both books have received rave reviews on Amazon.com Book Details: The Ghost of Sephera Theodore Crane YA Sci-fi Series, Book Two By J.D. Tew Published: November 2014 ISBN: 978-1503236295 ASIN: B00NZ86KBW Pages: 417 Genre: YA Science Fiction From The Author: J. D. Tew is an oddball from Minnesota that has an insatiable passion for writing. He has a degree in Applied Science (no surprise there), and also served as an infantryman in the United States Army, earning numerous commendations. J. D. spends the majority of his days wrangling four kids, cleaning teeth (no, that's not weird), and creating new worlds through fiction. He'll never turn down an epic lightsaber battle with his kids. His first book The Acolytes of Crane was written from the complex mind of a veteran with extensive experience in combat and knowledge in areas of Science. J. D. places the majority of his writing efforts into creating characters and worlds that are unique and engrossing, while fabricating plots that evoke emotion from mystery and twists. Justin's latest project is a realistic science fiction novel that takes place on Earth, in the not so distant future, which should arrive in the spring or summer of 2015. by BWW News Desk - Jan 31, 2015

New York, NY…Hauser & Wirth is pleased to present 'Seven Billion Light Years', an exhibition of sculptures, installations, film, and new paintings by Subodh Gupta. Spanning the New Delhi-based artist's career to the present day, the exhibition emphasizes Gupta's distinctive use of commonplace objects in his ongoing campaign to map the effects of cultural dislocation in our era of shifting powers. In particular, Gupta captures the everyday realities of life in India – its nearly surreal collisions between the inescapably earthy and the ineffably divine, between the current of masses and the path of private days - through works of art that address dichotomies between traditional values and the impact of globalization. Canadian Authors Nominated for a Digital Book AwardCanadian Authors Nominated for a Digital Book Award
by BWW News Desk - Dec 5, 2014

Star Wars, Disney, Breaking Bad - all past nominees for the Digital Book Awards Now, the first-ever ESL textbook series for the iPad - 'Study It' - has been nominated for a DBA to be presented on January 14, 2015 in New York. The Study It Series was written by Canadians James Rice and Jamie Matechuk for their language school Connect School of Languages in Toronto - the only 1:1 iPad language school in Canada. 'We feel incredibly honoured to be recognized internationally for the Study It textbook series. The ability to use technology to engage and motivate students while opening the door for greater collaboration with teachers is incredibly exciting for us,' said Rice. 'We are entering a new frontier of publishing that is going to be challenging yet rewarding.' Rice and Matechuk have been working seemingly non-stop for the past two years to create the Study It textbook series. Their school has been an incubator of ideas with the iPad. 'We knew we were on the right path when we invited a rep from Apple Education to see our school and give us some feedback,' said Matechuk. 'He was overwhelmed. He told us that we were Light Years ahead of what was happening out there.' Despite the difficulties of both creating and implementing the books, Rice gets great motivation from the students themselves. 'They are the ones who tell us to keep going. Even when we make mistakes or we face some challenges, the students are forgiving because they know what we are trying to do.' Another challenge for the school, was bringing teachers up to speed. 'We went looking for teachers who had an open-mind to teaching with something new,' says Matechuk. 'Making them a part both the creative and implementation process was critical to our success. We encouraged feedback and asked for their help because this has never been done before.' Each book is judged based on a 13 point quality assurance test. The judging panel includes leading digital publishing design and production experts. Here is a list of the 2015 judges: http://www.digitalbookworld.com/the-digital-book-awards/judging-panel/ Past winners and nominees of the Digital Book Awards have included: 'The Making of Star Wars' by Ballentine, 'Decoded' by Jay Z, 'Breaking Bad' by Sony Pictures, 'Cracking the GRE' by Princeton Review, 'The Complete IELTS Student's Book' by Cambridge Press and 'Disney Animated' by Disney. Rice and Matechuk will be attending the Gala Awards ceremony in New York on January 14th. About Study It The Study It textbook series was written for for the language school Connect School of Languages - the only 1:1 iPad language school in Canada.
