NEOMFA Playwrights Festival Opens 2/11 at convergence-continuum

convergence-continuum presents four world-premiere plays by local graduate-student playwrights at the 2016 NEOMFA Playwrights Festival. The Festival features two full-length (two-act) plays by final-year MFA candidates Logan Smith and Lisa Langford, and two short one-act plays by second-year grad students Jaclyn Cifranic and Samuel Amazing. These plays are part of a three-year intensive program of study under playwright and Cleveland State University professor Mike Geither, and are co-produced by convergence-continuum and the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) in Creative Writing consortium. This will be the fifth year convergence-continuum has mounted the Festival at its performance space, the Liminis, 2438 Scranton Rd, Cleveland 44113 in the historic Tremont neighborhood. (more...)

Now in partnership for the third year with Alchemy Comedy Theatre, in Greenville, South Carolina. Four comedians, two finalists from North Carolina and two finalists from South Carolina took the stage for a final showdown, after performing throughout the last month competing for $1500 in cash and prizes. Luigi Creatore, who with his cousin Hugo Peretti wrote and produced iconic hits for such stars as Elvis Presley, Sam Cooke, Perry Como, Sarah Vaughan, Della Reese, Jimmie Rodgers, Patti Page and many others, including the Tokens' “Lion Sleeps Tonight,” Presley's “Can't Help Falling in Love” and “Wild in the Country,” and Cook's “Another Saturday Night” and “Twistin' the Night Away,” died of pneumonia at a Boca Raton hospice on Sunday, Dec. 13. He was 93.
