by BWW News Desk - May 23, 2014

At its height in the 8th to 7th century B.C., the Assyrian Empire was the dominant power of the ancient Near East and the largest empire the world had yet seen, spanning 1,000 miles in a continuous swathe from Assyria (present-day northern Iraq) to the Mediterranean. As Assyria expanded, the Phoenician city-states of the Levant—precariously located along the edge of Assyrian territory—were compelled to expand and strengthen their maritime trade networks to the west. The mercantile connections they established along the northern coast of Africa and the southern coast of Europe to the straits of Gibraltar and beyond, to the Atlantic, became conduits for raw materials, luxury goods, images, and ideas between the Near East and the Mediterranean. BWW CD Reviews: Rachel Potter's NOT SO BLACK AND WHITE Vivacious and HeartfeltBWW CD Reviews: Rachel Potter's NOT SO BLACK AND WHITE Vivacious and Heartfelt
by David Clarke - Mar 3, 2015

Despite growing up in Texas, I more or less hated country music for most of my life. If only more of it had sounded like Rachel Potter's first full length album NOT SO BLACK AND WHITE. If it had, I may have been a fan of the genre earlier. Mixing in sensibilities of pop and rock, Rachel Potter's brand of country is fresh and bold. Most refreshing of all is that her take on country is uniquely hers. There is no artifice or facade; there's just great music. (more...)

Today we are talking to one of the breakout stars of Season 3 of FOX's recent reality competition series THE X FACTOR and a stalwart Broadway regular in her own right, the passionate and versatile Rachel Potter. Espousing on her impressive new country-tinged album NOT SO BLACK & WHITE and explicating the impetus behind many of the standout tracks on the release, Potter opens up about her unique journey thus far in both her own life and her show business career - from her conservative Baptist upbringing to her early success headlining Disney theme park extravaganzas leading to a string of Broadway roles and eventually landing on THE X FACTOR, followed by her big move to Nashville and embarking on creating songs for a solo album that expresses exactly who she is, here and now. Additionally, Potter shares what audiences can expect from her upcoming live show at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC tonight as well as some special surprises she has in store for the performance. Plus, Potter reflects on some of her most memorable Disney shows and whether she would like to continue the tradition with FROZEN onstage while also recalling backstage stories from EVITA, WICKED and the LEGALLY BLONDE casting competition. All of that, her memorable GLEE audition, her desire to do FROZEN on Broadway and much more in this expansive conversation with a uniquely gifted Broadway crossover star worth watching. (more...)
