Rubicon Theatre Company's CONVICTION Begins Tonight

y of Ventura continues the company's 16th Not Your Typical Season with the WORLD PREMIERE of Conviction, produced in association with Dead Posh Productions, Bay Street Theatre, and the Royal Manitoba Theatre. Written by Carey Crim (Resident Artist at The Purple Rose) and directed by Scott Schwartz (Jane Eyre and Golda's Balcony on Broadway/Bat Boy and Murder for Two Off-Broadway), Conviction follows the story of a teacher accused of a crime he may or may not have committed and the impact that accusation has on his relationships with close family and friends, each of whom having different perspectives on what happened. BWW Review: The New Jewish Theatre's Fascinating GOLDA'S BALCONY

After playwright William Gibson's GOLDA fizzled he reworked the material to form the one woman show Golda's Balcony. It's been a big success for the actresses who have undertaken the role, and we're lucky to have one of St. Louis' finest portraying this historically important figure. The New Jewish Theatre's current production, which opens their 20th season, gives Lavonne Byers the opportunity to, once again, thoroughly engage and enthrall an audience, while giving us insights into Golda Meir's fascinating life story. This is an incredibly well crafted presentation that definitely deserves your attendance. (more...)

Acclaimed Broadway, film and television star Tovah Feldshuh brought her acclaimed show Aging Is Optional at 54 Below last night and BroadwayWorld was there for the fun. On the New York stage, besides earning four Tony nominations for Best Actress, Ms. Feldshuh won four Drama Desk Awards, four Outer Critics Circle Awards, the Obie, the Theatre World Award, and the Lucille LortelAward for Best Actress in Golda's Balcony. On the West Coast she received San Diego's Theatre Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Performance in a Touring Show for Golda's Balcony as well as two Drama Logue awards for her Juliet and her first one woman show: Tovah: A Rush Hour Revue! Most recently, Tovah stopped the show as the trapeze-swinging Berthe in the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival of Pippin. Last season, she played Lady Politic in the acclaimed revival of Ben Jonson's Volpone at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) will celebrate its 22nd year as a not-for-profit service organization with a celebration of three extraordinary people at the annual TRU Love Benefit, Honoring Friendship, Remembering Friends. The 2013 TRU Spirit of Theater Award, presented to a member of the producing community who has demonstrated exceptional generosity, support and kindness to others in the business, will be posthumously awarded to producer Randall Wreghitt (Little Women, Beauty Queen of Leenane, Grey Gardens, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Golda's Balcony, As Bees in Honey Drown, The Food Chain) who died unexpectedly at the age of 55 in May 2011. Back in October actress Wendy Westerwelle woke up, went downstairs made a cup of coffee and went out to the back deck to chat with her husband. When she arrived she found the top of his head bobbing in the water. She screamed, dropped the coffee cup and tried with all her might to pull him out of the water. Mark, being 6'6 and Wendy at 5'4" couldn't retrieve his body - fortunately, a woman was staying at her home and helped Wendy call the paramedics, her Rabbi, and console Wendy. (more...)

Written by Carey Crim (Resident Artist at The Purple Rose) and directed by Scott Schwartz (Jane Eyre and Golda's Balcony on Broadway/Bat Boy and Murder for Two Off-Broadway), Conviction follows the story of a teacher accused of a crime he may or may not have committed and the impact that accusation has on his relationships with close family and friends, each of whom having different perspectives on what happened.
