BWW Reviews: CSC's AS YOU LIKE IT - You'll Like It Like That
by Jack L. B. Gohn - Jun 21, 2014

It's often been observed of Shakespeare that his plays don't tell you what he thinks about most subjects. But it is hard to doubt that he believed in romantic love, that mad, intoxicating, all-encompassing feeling that inspires courtship and marriage. Many of his comedies are essentially love delivery vehicles, giddy confections that give the audience an extraordinarily broad license just to roll in the bliss of it. I think especially of Twelfth Night, Much Ado About Nothing, and A Midsummer Night's Dream. But the most love-mad of all is surely As You Like It. And thankfully, that love-mad champagne feeling is served up nearly full-force in the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company's latest rendering of the play. (more...)

'The Yogini With A Thousand Eyes' is Released
by BWW News Desk - Jun 17, 2014

Denver resident and psychologist Francine Juhasz, after years of yoga coupled with a lively imagination, discovered small incidents occurring in her everyday life could be seen as actors skilled in pantomime offering her emotional support if she broke their codes. These trivial yet helpful theatrics occurred so often she decided to create a tale to entice others to play imaginatively with this mysterious phenomenon and enjoy the designer moods it offered. This visionary novel set in modern-day Amsterdam dramatizes how to emotionally benefit from defrocking these rascals. In this visionary novel, 'The Yogini With A Thousand Eyes, each day the heroine,' Annajoy, carries on an elegant meditative dance with the unremarkable trivial events that occur during her daily life in Amsterdam. Shaped by years of yogic practices and using imagination and reverie, she discovers her city is an ensouled place, replete with mysterious minidramas enacted by an extraordinary cast of characters more cleverly disguised than revelers during Carnival. In her evolved consciousness Amsterdam becomes an art gallery, funhouse and more-than-human community, where meaning is a daily event, and oases of mood catapult her into moments of Ecstasy. 'Scientists have forgotten to study trivial events,' said Juhasz, 'and no adventurer has led an expedition to explore them. I'd like people to become curious about the odd little things that happen, see the art involved, and discover their daily lives can provide them with moods bordering on Ecstasy.' Former journalist Melody Sinclair, winner of a Denver Woman's Press Club Writers Contest for fiction, in describing this novel said, 'It is literally changing how I'm looking at everything.' Here is a fun story of bold creation, imaginative genius and joy to be found beneath the humble disguises of the mundane. It is a story of one woman crossing an imaginative frontier that offers a glimpse of the designer moods possible to everyone in everyday life. Decoding trivial events is Juhasz's lifelong passion. She uses creative visualization and musing reverie in her counseling practice in Denver, helping others decipher the unsuspected nuances of the symbolism of trivial events. With her Dutch husband she gives classes and workshops globally to facilitate individuals' contact with valuable, yet dormant, inner resources. The Yogini With A Thousand Eyes is available for download at all major eBook retailers through Smashwords and will soon be available in print on Amazon. For more information visit (more...)

BWW Reviews: Actor's Express' ROCKY HORROR SHOW is a Titillating Evening of Talent and Depravity
by Matt Tamanini - Jul 15, 2014

I am quite aware that this will sound sacrilegious to many who read this review, but until I saw Actor's Express' titillating production of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW, I had never seen the musical before. I have a vague recollection of watching the film version on VH1's 'Movies That Rock' at some point in the mid-90's, but other than seeing Susan Sarandon in her underwear, it didn't do much to interest me. So, as I made my way to the King Plow Arts Center, I expected to be impressed by the tremendous young talents in the cast, but what I didn't expect was to be transported to another world of naughty, musical theatre Ecstasy.
