Guest Blog: Playwright Kemp Powers On ONE NIGHT IN MIAMI...
by Guest Blog: Kemp Powers - Oct 4, 2016

How does one put words into the mouths of titans? It was something I struggled with mightily as I was writing One Night in Miami… At times, I regretted even taking on the challenge of trying to speak in the voices of Muhammad Ali, Sam Cooke, Malcolm X and Jim Brown. But the importance of the special friendship between those men left me with a feeling of obligation to see my attempt through to fruition. (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Oct 29, 2016

Golden Thread Productions, the first American theatre company to focus on the Middle East, continues its 20th Anniversary Season with the West Coast premiere of Yussef El Guindi's humorous and hard-hitting Our Enemies: Lively Scenes of Love and Combat, directed by Founding Artistic Director Torange Yeghiazarian. In this juicy denunciation of the mainstream media machine, struggling writer Gamal hates the way his fellow Arab-Americans represent their culture on American media. It's easy enough to take out his frustration on literature superstar Mohsen and local mosque leader, Sheikh Alfani. But when his own girlfriend and novelist Noor gets an offer from a major publisher backed with a national media campaign, how will Gamal manage his frustration? Our Enemies runs October 28-November 20, 2016 at the Thick House (1695 18th Street, San Francisco) and performs Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 3pm. by BWW News Desk - Oct 27, 2016

Berkshire Fine Arts called Cerise Jacobs's Ouroboros Trilogy "the most ambitious opera undertaking Boston has ever seen" when it premiered in three complete cycles this past September at the Cutler Majestic Theater. And the Boston Globe wrote, "Ouroboros, a cycle of three mystic operas ("Naga," "Madame White Snake," and "Gilgamesh") by three profoundly distinct composers, is an enchanted exploration of the eternal mysteries humanity has always turned to mythology to explain: love, loss, hubris, mortality." BWW Review: AMADEUS, National Theatre, 26 October 2016
by Marianka Swain - Oct 27, 2016

Jealousy stalks this seminal work by the late Peter Schaffer, making a triumphant return to the theatre where it debuted in 1979. Court composer Salieri is cursed with just enough musical appreciation to realise how mediocre his efforts are in comparison with Mozart - whose instinctive genius is yoked to an obscene child persona - a realisation that shakes his fundamental faith. If music is God's art, why isn't his virtue rewarded with a divine voice? Why does the Almighty choose instead, as his conduit, someone who Salieri deems so unworthy? (more...)
