The Hnatyshyn Foundation and TD Bank Group announced today that cheyanne turions is the recipient of the Award for Emerging Curator of Contemporary Canadian Art. The award is presented to a Canadian curator, under the age of 35, whose body of work has achieved a public presence and peer recognition. The recipient of this award is eligible for a $10,000 grant to help pursue his or her professional development. Scott Elliott is an award-winning stage director, filmmaker and the founding Artistic Director of The New Group, where he recently directed the critically acclaimed revival of David Rabe's Sticks and Bones. Lifeline Theatre presents a world premiere adaptation of Amy Timberlake's Edgar Award-winning and Newbery Honor book, One Came Home, by Jessica Wright Buha, directed by Lifeline Theatre ensemble member Elise Kauzlaric (Non-Equity Jeff Award nominee for Mariette in Ecstasy). During the great passenger pigeon migration of 1871, throngs of strangers descend upon Placid, Wisconsin, bringing prosperity in their wake. But as the skies clear, tragedy strikes and Georgie Burkhardt's sister goes missing. When a body is found and the town goes into mourning, Georgie sets out to uncover the truth behind Agatha's disappearance. The journey that follows, both humorous and heartbreaking, will test the limits of her courage and the strength of her character. A powerful coming-of-age tale combines live music with historical events in a world premiere adaption based on the 2013 novel by Chicago author Amy Timberlake. The production runs approximately two hours with one intermission. The book will be on sale in the lobby. One Came Home runs February 13-April 5, 2014 at Lifeline Theatre, 6912 N. ODC Theater's fourth annual smorgasbord of dance, the Walking Distance Dance Festival-SF, returns for a fourth year with samplings of dance from around the Bay Area and the nation. Over two days, Friday, June 5 to Saturday, June 6, ODC will present three programs of paired artists and a free, site-adaptive performance. Featured artists include Amy Seiwert/Imagery, Gerald Casel Dance, Jess Curtis/Gravity, Namita Kapoor, ODC/Dance, RAWdance and Gallim Dance in its Bay Area debut. (more...)

Tonight, April 13th, The 24 Hour Company is teaming with the Exchange, an off-Broadway theater company, to create the seventh 24 Hour Musicals. A team of more than 100 - including stars from Broadway, film, television, and music - will cast, write, compose, direct, rehearse, tech, and perform four original musicals - all in the obscenely short time between an evening meet-and-greet on Sunday, April 12 and show time tonight, April 13 at 8pm. The event benefits the Exchange's summer program, The Orchard Project, which incubates and accelerates innovative new theatrical work from around the world. (more...)
