Today, Gelsey Kirkland Ballet announced the company will be cancelling its upcoming program, Russian Treasures, due to several injuries within the company. Russian Treasures was slated to be the third program of the company's 2016/2017 season, featuring Marius Petipa's hilarious one-act comedy Cavalry Halt, as well as pieces by Leonid Yakobson, Leonid Lavrovsky, and Kasyan Goleizovsky.  (more...)

The Metropolitan Opera House was full of excited young ones. I had a running commentary from a boy of about 4 years old, sitting next to me on his father's lap. BWW Review: ABT's DON QUIXOTE Fires Up The 2017 Spring Season

It takes the perfect spark to light a match, and on Thursday May 18, 2017, that spark was Soloist Christine Shevchenko. Replacing a temporarily injured Gillian Murphy, her rendition of Kitri was the cherry on top of the already delicious sundae that is Petipa's 'Don Quixote,' presented during the company's first week of spring performances at their Metropolitan Opera House residency. The ability to adapt, adjust, and make something your own is a rare gift that so often gets taken for granted. But it's exactly that nuance that let Shevchenko - and the entire production - shine like the brightest star in the sky. (more...)

Orlando Shakespeare Theater Announces Updates to 29th Season

Artistic Director Jim Helsinger and Managing Director PJ Albert announced updates to Orlando Shakespeare Theater in Partnership with UCF's (Orlando Shakes) upcoming 2017-2018 Season. The Margeson Theater-Orlando Shakes' thrust stage-will be transformed into theater in-the-round seating for Man of La Mancha (Sep. 6 - Oct. 8, 2017) and Showtime for Shakespeare: A Magic Tree House Adventure (Oct.19 - Nov. 17, 2017). The Theater's final Signature Series production, William Shakespeare's Timon of Athens, will change to a yet to-be-determined production due to a reduction in state funding for arts and cultural-related activities. Two Dr. Phillips Center Applause Award Participants Win 2017 Jimmy Awards

Tony Moreno and Sofia Deler, two Orange County high school students from the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts's Applause Awards program won awards for Best Actor and Best Actress on Monday evening at The Jimmy Awards in New York City. Moreno and Deler competed against 72 other students from across the country for the top prize in a ceremony at Broadway's Minskoff Theatre that was hosted by 2017 Tony Award winner for Best Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Ben Platt, of Dear Evan Hansen. This is the first time in the 9-year history of the Jimmy Awards that both winners come from the same program and city. (more...)
