Houston Grand Opera Announces SEEKING THE HUMAN SPIRIT

Houston Grand Opera (HGO) toDay announced plans for Seeking the Human Spirit (STHS), a six-year multidisciplinary initiative designed to highlight the universal spiritual themes raised in opera and to expand and deepen Houstonians' connections to opera and to art. Launching in the fall of 2017, STHS comprises three mainstage operas each season-one of which will be a new work-united by a single theme, and complementary projects by HGO and partner organizations created to enhance and enrich the community's experience of the themes. Some of these activities will be available to the public; others will offer personal access to opera and HGO artists and staff for groups such as hospital patients, women who are rebuilding their lives after homelessness, and young people pursuing interfaith projects.  (more...)

Fresh from a memorable, ambitious tour of Israel and Europe, the intrepid musicians of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) jump back into action. The TSO's 95th season is coming to an end, but the month of June is bursting with highly anticipated events, such as the new, semi-staged production of Kurt Weill's The Seven Deadly Sins; William Walton's mighty Belshazzar's Feast; and Carl Orff's epic Carmina Burana-all part of this season's final instalment of The Decades Project, in partnership with the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). Cinquant'anni fa debuttava al Sistina l'opera beat di Tito Schipa jr. 'THEN AN ALLEY', considerata il primo esperimento al mondo di Opera Rock. La scelta del titolo (che si traduce 'E poi una straDa') fu quasi profetica, perche quello fu il primo passo di un cammino che porto alla rifonDazione del genere operistico attraverso spettacoli come 'Tommy', 'Jesus Christ Superstar', 'Starmania', 'Notre-Dame de Paris' e tanti altri. Spettacoli anche molto diversi tra loro (opere rock, opere popolari, opere prog eccetera) accomunati pero Da una drammaturgia che recupera quella del melodramma. Ci sarebbe quasi Da commuoversi all'idea che un anniversario del genere caDa a pochi giorni Dal 450° compleanno di Monteverdi, uno dei padri fonDatori del genere operistico classico, se non fosse per una cosa. Learn from Broadway stars this summer at Playhouse on Park! Broadway actors Douglas Lyons and Jason Gotay visit the Playhouse as guest teaching artists for the Musical Theatre Preparatory Program. Running from July 10-July 21, this two week full-Day intensive musical theatre program introduces and prepares young actors (3rd-8th grade) for future training and/or performance in music, Dance and theater. Cast Change Announced for San Francisco Opera's DON GIOVANNI

San Francisco Opera's 2017 Summer Season will include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Don Giovanni at the War Memorial Opera House beginning SunDay, June 4 through FriDay, June 30 for eight performances. In a cast change announced toDay, Uruguayan bass-baritone Erwin Schrott and American bass Erik Anstine will sing the role of Leporello. Both artists are making their first appearances with San Francisco Opera and stepping in for previously scheduled bass Marco Vinco, who has withdrawn from the production for health reasons.
