SB Youth Opera to present BRUNDIBAR

The Santa Barbara Youth Opera, in collaboration with Ojai Youth Opera and the Santa Barbara Youth Symphony, will present a fully staged production of Brundibar, Jewish Czech composer Hans Krasa's uniquely affecting children's opera, at the Lobero Theatre on Saturday, May 20. Casting Announced for VANYA AND SONIA AND MASHA AND SPIKE at Citadel Theatre

Citadel Theatre's 2016-17 season concludes with Christopher Durang's Tony Award®-winning Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Durang's comedy, an updating and mash-up of characters, plot devices and themes from Chekhov's four major plays, won the Tony for Best Production of a Play in the 2013 Tony Awards. Replacing the traditional Chekhovian country estate is the play's setting in a Bucks County, Pennsylvania farmhouse, complete with a cherry orchard of sorts. Vanya and his adopted sister Sonia, named for characters from Chekhov plays by their late professor parents, are living in the family home now owned by their actress sister Masha, who pays the bills. Leon Fleming tackles mental issues, family, poverty, struggle, and hope in his new play Kicked in the Sh*tter. Her (Helen Budge) and Him (James Clay) - Brother and Sister with an unprivileged upbringing of poverty - show what it means to live in a constant state of instability caused by depression and anxiety, in a place where everyone seems to be against them. It is through their eyes that Fleming's audiences see the actual overwhelming despair that comes when everything becomes too much to handle, and the play becomes a relevant, valid depiction of mental illnesses told in sincerity and with a no-nonsense attitude.
