by Buster Spiller - Oct 22, 2014

Americans are particularly spoiled when it comes to what we expect from films, television, and theater. We have to have a presentation that follows a very predicable format, including a likeable hero or heroine, antagonist, life conflict that mirrors our own, and a climax in which good wins over evil. We want to leave these experiences feeling completely uplifted and good about ourselves. What is perceived as negative isn't even part of our collective consciousness. (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Oct 21, 2014

In August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece The Piano Lesson, the past threatens to pull apart Brother and Sister. Bernice treasures a one-of-a-kind piano, an heirloom with carved figures of their enslaved ancestors. Boy Willie suddenly arrives from the South determined to sell the piano and buy the land his family worked on. When the ghost of the piano's original owner appears, family conflicts escalate to a dramatic confrontation. With lyrical language rolling from the rowdy to the tender, this is one of Wilson's finest. (more...)

As I've said numerous times in my reviews and recaps, I don't think there is a show on television more important for the future of the arts than SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. In addition to exposing the public to a much more emotionally honest and raw form of creativity than we are used to seeing in today's overly packaged and focused-grouped world of entertainment, the show also makes stars out of the usually unsung heroes of the artistic community; dancers.
