AboutFACE Ireland will be presenting Orson Welles' Christmas Carol, a new play for Christmas for the whole family, at the Powerscourt Theatre in Dublin, for 5 performances only, December 20th-22nd 2013. Written by Paul Nugent, it tells a fictionalized account, based on true events, of the Christmas Eve 1938 night where, in CBS Radio Studio 1, the young radio superstar Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre on the Air are set to perform their eagerly awaited weekly 60-minute version of a classic; tonight it's “A Christmas Carol.” Only things aren't too Christmassy: it's ten minutes to ON-AIR and legendary Scrooge Lionel Barrymore has fallen sick, and now 23-year-old Orson has to step into his shoes; plus the script still isn't right, Orson's on the rampage, his cast are revolting after three days of rehearsing without sleep, and the pressure's on after the success of “War of the Worlds”: the Nation awaits and Hollywood's watching! Today in 2008, the third Broadway revival of Pal Joey opened at Studio 54, where it ran for 85 performances. Pal Joey is a musical with a book by John O'Hara (from his novel of the same title) and music and lyrics by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart based on a character and situations O'Hara created in a series of short stories published in The New Yorker. The original 1940 Broadway production was directed by George Abbott and starred Gene Kelly. Two Muses Theatre presents Love, Loss and What I Wore by famous screenwriter sisters, Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron. The show will be performed with a unique cast each weekend, headed up by a different local celebrity, May 30 through June 15. In conjunction with this production, Two Muses Theatre is partnering with Closet NV to raise clothing donations for Dress for Success, a worldwide organization, whose mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire to help them thrive in work and in life. Amas Musical Theatre and The Amas Musical Theatre Lab will present free staged readings of "Cookin! - A Taste of Things to Come," a new musical by Debra Barsha and Hollye Levin, with musical direction by Gillian Berkowitz. Last night at New York City's Pierre Hotel, the National Corporate Theatre Fund (NCTF) honored Tony and Emmy Award Winning singer and actress Kristin Chenoweth, and the Edgerton Foundation for their leadership in the arts at the NCTF 2014 Chairman's Awards Gala. The evening included a special performance by Tony Award Winner Jefferson Mays and Bryce Pinkham, stars of the current hit musical A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder; an excerpt from the highly acclaimed show Witness Uganda, currently at A.R.T. (an NCTF member theatre); and an appearance by legendary comedian Lily Tomlin, currently on tour with a solo show.
