Almost every choreographer attempts to address the relationship between the Bedfellows of dance and music. The results of these examinations have had varying degrees of success. Bach Dances with Live Music was presented as a partnership between the two art forms by featuring Rioult Dance New York and students from the Manhattan School of Music. The program consisted of three works, Views of the Fleeting World; City; and Celestial Tides, all set to music by J. S. Bach. This evening, though this program had been performed before, was the first time that it was set to live music in its entirety. (more...)

An examination of the 100 highest rated brands for 2014 shows brands that enable consumers to personalize their entertainment content and scheduling are growing their equity at a faster rate than brands in other categories. Netflix increased at the fastest rate among the Top 100 measured brands over the last two years (2012 to 2014) and Pandora Internet Radio also showed impressive equity growth over the past two years, with the 4 th-highest rate of equity growth among the Top 100 brands within that period. Report: Americans Can't Put Down Their Smartphones, Even During Sex

According to the new Mobile Consumer Habits study released today by Jumio, Inc. and conducted online by Harris Interactive, smartphone usage is so prevalent in Americans' everyday lives that nearly one in ten (9%) smartphone owners admit to having used their phone during sex, along with unexpected places, such as the shower (12%), in church or other place of worship (19%), and more. The 2013 Mobile Consumer Habits study provides insight into the behaviors of Americans when it comes to their smartphones, along with their top concerns over losing their beloved device. (more...)

Bard SummerScape 2013 Season Announced

Russia's profound and far-reaching impact on 20th-century culture will be explored at the 2013 annual Bard SummerScape festival, which once again offers an extraordinary summer of music, opera, theater, dance, film, and cabaret, keyed to the theme of the 24th annual Bard Music Festival, Stravinsky and His World. Presented in the striking Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts and other venues on Bard College's bucolic Hudson River campus, the seven-week festival opens on July 6 with the first of two performances of A Rite (2013) by the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and SITI Company, and closes on August 18 with a party in Bard's beloved Spiegeltent, which returns for the full seven weeks. Complementing the Bard Music Festival's exploration of “Stravinsky and His World,” some of the great Russian-born composer's most captivating compatriots provide key SummerScape highlights. These include the first fully-staged American production of Sergey Taneyev's opera Oresteia; the world premiere of an original stage adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov's seminal novel The Master and Margarita; and a film festival titled “Between Traditions: Stravinsky's Legacy and Russian Emigré Cinema.” Together, SummerScape's offerings will continue Bard's yearlong tenth-anniversary celebrations for the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center, which commence with a month of special performances in April.
