The Antaeus Theatre Company has announced that it will break ground for a new cultural arts center in Glendale on June 11 at 10 a.m. The City of Glendale has approved plans submitted by the company to transform a 7,600 square-foot retail building at 110 East Broadway into an intimate, yet comprehensive performing arts facility. On Thursday, Sept. 24, the Buffalo Philharmonic will present 'Soundwave,' featuring Buffalo bands The Albrights and Babik and works by contemporary rock-inspired composers and songwriters Mason Bates, Adam Schoenberg, and Sufjan Stevens. The Scottish Ballet performed A Streetcar Named Desire as a ballet at the Kennedy Center on Thursday, May 29th.  On its face, this is a ridiculous statement.  How could a foreign company perform the iconic American story by Tennessee Williams, much less translate it into pure movement?  However, the production was extremely well conceived and magnificently executed in libretto, design, and dance. ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, NY: The Bard SummerScape festival presents an entirely new way to experience Oklahoma!, Rodgers and Hammerstein's quintessential celebration of the American frontier. Starring Damon Daunno, Amber Gray, and two-time Tony nominee Mary Testa, Bard's production is directed by Daniel Fish - 'a magical manipulator' (New York Times) - with new musical arrangements for a six-piece Americana band by Henry Hewes Award-winner Daniel Kluger, and new choreography by Jacob's Pillow Dance Award-winner John Heginbotham. This intimate, revelatory production brings audience and artists together in the round, sharing food and telling the story of a young nation forming its identity. Oklahoma!will be mounted in 25 performances between June 25 and July 19 in the LUMA Theater of the Frank Gehry-designed Fisher Center. Following two sold-out engagements in both 2013 and 2014, Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival presents tap sensation Dorrance Dance with famed singer/songwriter Toshi Reagon and her band BIGLovely in the return of The Blues Project, July 1-5 in the Ted Shawn Theatre. Founded in 2011 by Jacob's Pillow Dance Award recipient Michelle Dorrance, Dorrance Dance features some of today's best tap artists, performing alongside co-choreographers of The Blues Project Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards and Derick K. Grant. Award-winning musician and composer Toshi Reagon created the music for The Blues Project, which is performed live by Reagon and members of her band, BIGLovely, on acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass, drums and percussion, and violin.
