MoMA to Screen Over 60 Feature Films in Honor of 100th Anniversary of TechnicolorMoMA to Screen Over 60 Feature Films in Honor of 100th Anniversary of Technicolor
by BWW News Desk - May 8, 2015

Technicolor is truly the stuff that dreams are made on. “My first memories of movies are in Technicolor,” Martin Scorsese said. “Duel in the Sun was the first picture I ever saw, and it's never left me—reds, blues, greens, yellows, deep blacks, lustrous golds. There doesn't appear to be any blending of color in that picture—everything is primary, and everything is alive. It may be garish, it's certainly unreal, and it's far from subtle, but it's alive. Alive…. To me, that's Technicolor.” (more...)

SOUND OFF Special Edition: 10 Biggest & Bloodiest Tony Awards Best Musical BattlesSOUND OFF Special Edition: 10 Biggest & Bloodiest Tony Awards Best Musical Battles
by Pat Cerasaro - May 20, 2015

Bloodshed is par for the course during Tony Awards season, especially as it reaches its peak in the last handful of weeks leading up the big annual ceremony feting theatre's best, so today we take a look back at some of the absolute most brutal and tight Tony Award races for Best Musical in history. Although comparing a group of musicals - alike as dissimilar as they may be - may be an unfair proposition in practice, there is only one way a winner is decided when the Tony Awards rolls around and it unfortunately always finds fan favorites, critical darlings and a few commercial hits vying for top honors. There can only be one Best Musical - well, except for 1960 when there were actually two mainstage entertainments given the prize; THE SOUND OF MUSIC and FIORELLO, with no less than GYPSY ending up an also-ran. Who will claim the trophy on June 7? Tune in then to see! (more...)

This is it, folks: THE AMAZING RACE Season 26 Finale. This leg is for all the marbles. Pérez Art Museum Miami Acquires Ruth Dealy Seminal PaintingPérez Art Museum Miami Acquires Ruth Dealy Seminal Painting
by BWW News Desk - May 12, 2015

Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to announce that Pérez Art Museum Miami recently acquired 'Morning After,' an early painting by internationally known painter Ruth Dealy, a Providence-based artist for nearly five decades. Dealy is one of a group of Rhode Island artists - including Harry Callahan, Stephan Brigidi, Richard Fleishner, Malcolm Grear, Bunny Harvey, Aaron Siskind, Hugh Townley, and Dale Chihuly - who became known as The Rhode Island School based on their emergence in the 1970s as artists from Rhode Island School of Design. The acquisition was made possible by a generous gift from Dr. William and Nancy Tsiaras. Dealy recently commented on 'Morning After': I painted 'Morning After' when I was twenty-seven years old. I had a studio over a bar, and the music played into the night. Although the title might be taken to refer to waking up after the end of a relationship or a night of drinking, I was referring to growing up. I was truly leaving my younger identity to walk the long and (I was afraid) lonely road of the artist. Now, forty-one years later, I am so grateful for that moment, and it still resonates as if it were today. That awakening has led me on a long walk through a dense woods to an opening in the field. About Ruth Dealy Ruth Dealy is an artist who has lived and worked in Providence, Rhode Island for 48 years. A recipient of several grants and awards, including the coveted Pell Award for Excellence in the Arts, Dealy is interested in the tension between what is seen and what is felt. Her paintings, both self-portraits and landscapes, are 'meditations on ways of seeing and reproducing that seeing, not exactly, but honestly.' For more information about Ruth Dealy, visit ruthdealy.com. About Pérez Art Museum Miami Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) promotes artistic expression and the exchange of ideas, advancing public knowledge and appreciation of art, architecture, and design, and reflecting the diverse community of its pivotal geographic location at the crossroads of the Americas. This mission is reflected in the initial installation of its permanent collection of art from the World War II era to the present, Americana, at the new home of the 29-year-old South Florida institution formerly known as Miami Art Museum (MAM). Designed by world-renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron, the facility opened in Downtown Miami's Museum Park on December 4, 2013, is a state-of-the-art model for sustainable museum design and progressive programming. The facility features 200,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor program space with sprawling galleries; shaded outdoor verandas; a waterfront restaurant and bar; a museum shop; and an education center with a library, media lab, and classroom spaces.
