In an effort to get the theatre's footlights shining again, two sister theatre companies - Entr'Acte Theatrix and Palm Beach Principal Players - are co-producing JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, which will run for 10 performances at the former Caldwell Theatre, July 5-15. The dynamic rock musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice is a musical interpretation of the final days of Jesus Christ that is not so much a story about religion as it is about the emergence of a charismatic rebel who surfaces among an oppressed people to pacifistically challenge the moral state of existing affairs - all told in the musical vernacular of rock 'n' roll, just like HAIR before it. Carole J. Bufford made her entrance on the New York cabaret stage in the Metropolitan Room's MetroStar Talent Challenge. Immediately following, she was asked to perform at the 2009 Cabaret Convention at Jazz@Lincoln Center presented by the Mabel Mercer Foundation. In addition, Ms. Bufford has been featured in numerous Broadway By The Year concerts, both at The Town Hall and in California. She has also performed in All Singin', All Dancin' as well as the recent Tribute to Judy Garland and The Art of American Dance at The Town Hall where she shared the stage with Lorna Luft and Susan Stroman in an all-star cast. In addition, Ms. Bufford has been featured in numerous Broadway By The Year concerts, both at The Town Hall and in California. She has also performed in All Singin', All Dancin' as well as the recent Tribute to Judy Garland and The Art of American Dance at The Town Hall where she shared the stage with Lorna Luft and Susan Stroman in an all-star cast. An afternoon of music, art and fashion comes to Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach when Pacific Symphony's prized support group, the Pacific Symphony League, hosts a fund-raising luncheon to benefit music education programs. Chaired by League member Gwen Williams-fashion entrepreneur, performer and art collector-the luncheon features renowned Beverly Hills designer Ricco Antonio showcasing his latest custom-designed dresses and evening gowns in a fashion show, with music by vocalist and digital keyboard player Jim Roberts. The setting is embellished with original artwork by celebrity artist Pilar Wayne and music by the Laguna Flutes, led by the Symphony's own flute and piccolo player, Cynthia Ellis, which provide an eclectic, jazzy and fresh mix of flute arrangements.
