Celebrated Playwright John Guare Returns To Florida Stage

Celebrated American playwright John Guare will be returning to Florida Stage as the guest speaker at Lee Wolf's Backstage at Theatre Club. The intimate, thought-provoking interview will be conducted by Ms. Wolf, noted literary enthusiast and long-time Florida stage supporter. Mr. Guare last visited Florida Stage in 2007 to present the Keynote Address for the company's inaugural 1st Stage New Works Festival. His appearance for Backstage at Theatre Club will be on February 18, 2011 from 12-3pm at the Phillips Point Club on Flagler Road in West Palm Beach. Lunch is included. MIAMI CITY BALLET continues its 25th Anniversary Season in South Florida with Program III and the Company Premiere of Paul Taylor's powerful Promethean Fire. RESPECT, which has been continuously evolving since its debut as a one-woman show in 1999, is an entertaining, exuberant and exhilarating look at the lives of women as reflected in the popular music of the 20th Century. The show ran for over a year at the Cuillo Centre for the Arts in West Palm Beach and for six months at the Stage Door 26th Street Theatre in Fort Lauderdale, before ‘going on the road' and playing in multiple cities across the United States - including Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Detroit, Green Bay and Minneapolis. RESPECT has also ‘gone international' - playing to enthusiastic houses in Melbourne and Brisbane Australia. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts has announced the 2011/2012 Regional Arts MUSIC 'At Eight' and MUSIC 'At Two' Concert Series, featuring many of the world's most celebrated classical artists. The series is again being sponsored by Leonard and Sophie Davis. 'The 2011/2012 season is very strong with seven symphony orchestras performing 10 of the 15 total concerts in the series, including the first performance in Palm Beach County by the Cleveland Orchestra since starting its residency in Miami five years ago,' said Lee Bell, Senior Director of Programming at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts. Evans Haile Steps Down as Producing Artistic Director at North Shore Music Theatre

Having created the infrastructure, show choices, casting, steering, and completing, the Premiere Season of the newly re-opened North Shore Music Theatre in Beverly, Massachusetts, Producing Artistic Director Evans Haile has announced his decision to move on and allow more time to focus on several projects that further his personal goal of keeping the Performing Arts a vital part of American culture. His one year commitment was completed on December 31, 2010. He still serves as Artistic Director of Cape Cod's historic Cape Playhouse and will co-produce 'Footloose' at both theatres later this year. (more...)

Ms. Sternhagen will be featured in a staged reading of legendary playwright Israel Horovitz' new play Beverley on Saturday, February 5, 2011. Palm Beach Dramaworks, announced its critically acclaimed production of Mark St. Germain's play, 'Freud's Last Session' will play an additional week of performances, slated through Sunday, February 13th at their intimate downtown theatre (322 Banyan Boulevard). MIAMI CITY BALLET continues its 25th Anniversary Season in South Florida with Program III and the Company Premiere of Paul Taylor's powerful Promethean Fire. Program III also features these audience favorites: George Balanchine's enthralling Scotch Symphony and Twyla Tharp's popular Nine Sinatra Songs. The Opus One Orchestra will play, under the baton of maestro Gary Sheldon, 42 to 56 musicians strong, supported by a grant from the John S. and James L.
