Des McAnuff to Appear in ROCKERS ON BROADWAY Concert, 10/31

The Path Fund, Inc.has just announced that two-time Tony Award winning director Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, The Who's Tommy) has joined the cast of 'ROCKERS ON BROADWAY - HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR', the latest edition of Broadway's favorite benefit Rock and Roll concert series will take place on Monday October 31st at the Midtown Theatre at the HA! Comedy Club (163 West 46th Street, NYC) with shows at 7PM and 10PM. Proceeds will benefit The Broadway Dreams Foundation, Broadway in South Africa and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

On Sunday October 23rd the Ryerson Theatre School is holding a special one night only concert at Koerner Hall to celebrate the achievements of Tony Award Winning director Des McAnuff. It has been a banner year for McAnuff, with his production of Jesus Christ Superstar a runaway hit at the Stratford Festival and bound for Broadway in March of 2012. The concert will feature songs from many of Des' shows, as well as cast members from Jesus Christ Superstar, Toronto's Jersey Boys and more. BWW spoke to Peggy Shannon, Chair of the Ryerson Theatre School, on what we can expect at the event and on the new scholarship the school is offering in Des' honour.

Roger Daltrey plans to bring THE WHO'S TOMMY on tour this fall. The Who's Tommy is a rock musical by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff based on The Who's 1969 double album rock opera Tommy, also by Pete Townshend, with additional material by John Entwistle and Sonny Boy Williamson.

Pete Townshend's score won the Tony Award in 1993 when The Who's concept album from the late 1960's was transferred to the Broadway stage. Townshend said he used Tommy's afflictions to represent the 'basic blindness to reality' shared by most of the general population. The role of Tommy will be portrayed on The Media Theatre stage by Peter Kriss who has been seen in regional productions of 'Footloose' and 'Fame'. CHESS opened at the Signature Theatre on August 10 and will run through September 26. The cast is lead by Jill Paice (Curtains, The 39 Steps) as Florence Vassy, Euan Morton (Boy George in Taboo, Sondheim on Sondheim) as Anatoly Sergievsky and Jeremy Kushnier (Footloose, Rent) as Freddie Trumper. The rock musical is directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer. Written by Mamma Mia! composers Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson with Evita and Lion King lyricist Tim Rice, the 1984 cult musical of Cold War competition in love and chess is being given its first major Washington area production. Chess is being performed in the fabulous intimacy of the 276-seat MAX Theatre.
