Mad Horse Theatre continues its provocative and haunting programming this season with a gripping, poetic, and troubling production of Naomi Wallace's award-winning 1996 drama, One Flea Spare. The play, set in London in 1665 at the height of the Black Death, explores the social, sexual, and psychological interaction of four people quarantined together in a pair of rooms while the plague rages around them. Their battle for survival pits the wealthy merchant and his wife against the sailor and a young servant girl who break into their house in search of shelter. Class warfare, devastating past memories, repressed sexuality, gender politics, and intricate personal power struggles make the time of confinement a descent into hell.

Bernie Williams, Latin Grammy-nominated jazz musician and former New York Yankees World Series Champ, makes his Caf Carlyle debut, Bernie Williams & Friends, March 6-10. Bernie Williams, the New York Yankees center fielder for 16 years, is best known for his long and storied career in pinstripes a career that includes four World Series championships, five appearances on the American League All-Star Team, four Gold Glove Awards and the 1996 American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player Award. Since he's hung up his cleats, he's had time to devote to his other great passion in life jazz guitar. Now that he's out of the game, he's getting back to his musical roots. His Caf debut will include an eclectic mix of Latin rhythms, smooth jazz, blues and standards.

Performance Space New York (formerly Performance Space 122) presents the East Village Series, its first semi-annual themed series, and the first program curated by the institution's new Executive Artistic Director, Jenny Schlenzka. This presentation of works from some of today's most radical performers and multidisciplinary artists resituates the institution in newly revamped spaces, designed by Deborah Berke Partners, in 122 Community Center (150 First Avenue, at East 9th Street), where Performance Space 122 was founded, and where it operated until it moved out in 2011 for the building renovation. The series contemplates the past, present, and future of the organization and its neighborhood.

From there, it is off and running - the 2017-18 season for "New York's foremost choral conductor" (The New Yorker) is highlighted by the world premieres of two works with the Oratorio Society of New York, Sanctuary Road, an oratorio about the Underground Railroad by Paul Moravec, libretto by Mark Campbell, commissioned by the OSNY, and Behzad Ranjbaran's We Are One; concerts with the Cathedral Choir of St. John the Divine including a program celebrating the immigrant history of New York in collaboration with early/world music group Rose of the Compass that includes the world premiere of a commissioned work by Robert Sirota, and a program of Kodaly, Stravinsky, and Part's Miserere; programs of repertoire ranging from Gregorian chant to Morton Lauridsen with Musica Sacra; and Bach's St. John Passion with ensembles and soloists from the Manhattan School of Music.

The Cincinnati Arts Association is pleased to announce the winners of its Overture Awards Competition, held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Aronoff Center's Jarson-Kaplan Theater, and the winner of its Arts Educator Award for Excellence in Arts Instruction. The competition awarded $4,000 to six area students for education and training, with 18 runners-up each winning $1,000, while the Arts Educator Award winner received $2,500 and two finalists were awarded $500 each.
