Thomas Moody Jr. Recalls the Painful Tragedy that Altered Many Lives in A SWIFT AND DEADLY MAELSTROM
by BWW News Desk - Feb 14, 2013

The winter of 1962-63 in Norwich, Connecticut, had been unbearable. Snow, ice, and subfreezing temperatures added to an already gloomy and drawn-out New England winter, one that had seen its onset begin virtually at the end of the summer of 1962. Spaulding Pond in Mohegan Park, a large wooded enclave in the northern section of town, was again abundantly full this Wednesday, March 6. So full in fact that it again challenged the 110-year-old dam by which it was held in place and where a small leak, another in an ever-growing line of recent "seepages," was discovered this afternoon by park workers and reported up to the Public Works director, himself a witness to these myriad other leaks and who would summarily dismiss it this day as understood leakage.

Taylor Mac Stars in The Foundry's GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN at La MaMa, Now thru 2/24
by BWW News Desk - Feb 1, 2013

Can we practice goodness and create a world to sustain it? This question, posed by Shen Tei, the good-hearted, penniless and cross-dressing prostitute of Bertolt Brecht's Good Person of Szechwan, is central to the work of The Foundry Theatre. The play's concerns, and the earmarks of the Foundry's new production, make it an ideal offering from the company, which is celebrated for creating memorable theatrical events while pursuing civic inquiry and social justice. The show, starring the singular Taylor Mac as Shen Tei, is directed by Lear deBessonet and features original live music by 'indie rock vaudevillians' (SPIN) Cesar Alvarez and The Lisps.

Gary Lendennie Writes an Off-the-Wall 'Tall Tale' of the Wild West
by Robert Diamond - Jan 27, 2013

EXCERPT: "My great-great grandfather, Rufus T. Breckenridge III was perhaps the most prolific liar and storyteller in the history of verbal communications. Either that or he had somehow acquired in his vast travels the unnatural ability to be in a number of different places simultaneously." This opening statement from the introduction to The Potentate of Walking Horse alerts the reader that a fun-loving, laugh-out-loud, maybe a little dark but always entertaining, journey through the Old West is about to begin. This story, set in the 1880s and '90s, is narrated by Rufus T. Breckenridge III on his 100th birthday. Charging straight ahead from one adventure to another (sometimes under the guidance and protection of an unknown power) this tongue-in-cheek account of how the West was really won will have the reader turning pages faster than a bottom-of-the-deck draw in a crooked poker game.

Conductor Stephen Kummer Discusses THE NUTTY PROFESSOR's Impact on Theater in Music City
by Jeffrey Ellis - Aug 6, 2012

Kummer, who has a lengthy resume of Nashville productions he's either music directed or conducted, leads the band onstage when they are assembled on the bandstand for The Nutty Professor's pep rally production number that closes the show. Clad in sparkly purple vests and green ties (the school colors of fictional Korwin University) designed by Tony Award-winning costumer Ann Hould-Ward, it's a rousing moment when the musicians take the stage. Suffice it to say, Nashville audiences have been vocal and expressive in their reactions since the show's first preview performance on July 24.
