Based on a story ("The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown") and characters by Damon Runyon

Bustling with gamblers, gangsters, and sassy showgirls, GUYS AND DOLLS celebrates Broadway's golden era with one of the greatest scores ever written for a musical by the legendary Frank Loesser, a masterfully witty book and lyrics by Joe Swerling and comedy legend Abe Burrows, and the glorious Damon Runyon's comic book world of 1940s Times Square New York City.

GUYS AND DOLLS originally conquered Broadway in 1951 as the winner of 5 Tony Awards including Best Musical and again in 1992 with 4 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical. The New York Times calls it "The show that defines Broadway dazzle!" A movie version ofGUYS AND DOLLS was released in 1953 starring Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra.

by Alix Cohen - Jul 27, 2015

Marcus Goldhaber wears his mantle lightly. Emulating such as Chet Baker, Hoagy Carmichael, and Fred Astaire—those artists who most often sounded nonchalant, yet polished-- the vocalist offers pared down (not simplistic) interpretations of American Songbook/jazz numbers with emotional translucence, as well as authoring his own fine contributions to the oeuvre. I dare you to distinguish those from songs originating in the 1940s and 1950s. With Free and Easy: Livin' on Swing Street at 54 Below (July 25), Goldhaber takes us on a personal walking tour of musical influence. Material is varied yet sustains a distinct style. The vocalist is unhurried (even when up-tempo), mindful of lyrics, and elegantly restrained. He seems comfortable on stage and refreshingly sincere. (more...)

BWW Interview: New Captain at the Helm! Anthony Warlow Reveals Why FINDING NEVERLAND Rekindled His Love for TheatreBWW Interview: New Captain at the Helm! Anthony Warlow Reveals Why FINDING NEVERLAND Rekindled His Love for Theatre
by Nicole Rosky - Aug 8, 2015

Anthony Warlow is back on Broadway. Just last month the Broadway and Australian stage vet stepped into the roles of 'Charles Frohman' and 'Captain Hook' in Finding Neverland. Warlow will remain captain of the pirate ship until September 13, when Kelsey Grammer returns to the production. Warlow has forged an enviable reputation over the span of his career, on the operatic and commercial theatre stage. Blessed with a thrilling voice and a gift for mimicry, he has successfully inhabited an extraordinary diversity of roles from high opera to musical comedy, and his versatility has enthralled Australian audiences ever since his 1981 debut with the Australian opera at the age of 19. Making the most coveted role in music theatre (The Phantom of the Opera '1990 & 2007-2009) his own, set the seal on Anthony's status as the country's premier stage performer.  With another month left at the Lunt Fontanne Theatre, Warlow recently checked in with BroadwayWorld about how he got the part, why he loves the role, and so much more! BWW Interviews: Robert Creighton: Making It RealBWW Interviews: Robert Creighton: Making It Real
by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Aug 5, 2015

'The more real you play it, the better for any piece, even a comedic piece like this one.' Stage and television actor Robert Creighton is talking about his upcoming role debut in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein, which opens August 6th at the Maine State Music Theatre. Creighton, who is playing the meaty role of Frankenstein's bungling, hunchbacked assistant Igor, says of his approach to the part, 'The script is so good, so honed that I just have to say the words and stay out of their way. I don't have to mug. It is so well-crafted that I simply embrace the stupidity of it all, enjoy that and watch the audience enjoy it, too. When you play it for real, you are not making fun of the humor or commenting on the material, and the situation takes care of itself.' (more...)

The Chatham Drama Guild, established eighty-four years ago and boasting one of the only truly volunteer managed community theater groups on the Cape, continues its summer season with Guys and Dolls, the well-known tale of gamblers-by-trade Nathan Detroit, Sky Masterson and their 'dolls' in the midst of Detroit's permanent floating crap game - all in the heart of 1950's New York City. The Directed by Pam Banas and musically directed by Charlie Gregson, Guild has succeeded in bringing to a Cape Cod audience a very heartfelt, genuine production of this classic musical which does well as well to capture the psychological and emotion angst of the characters as it does the tender and hopeful nature of those same individuals in the midst of falling in love - that is, in love with something other than their chance-based lives.
