In addition to starring a young Kevin Bacon as Ren, Footloose also starred Lori Singer as Ariel. It was originally written by Dean Pitchford. A Broadway musical version of Footloose was previously staged in 1998. The remake will be released in theatres on October 14.

The Old Globe today announced that James Vásquez will direct the theater's upcoming revival of Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Show. Vásquez replaces the previously announced Oanh Nguyen, who has departed the production due to artistic differences.

After a memorable and record-breaking inaugural year, Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater celebrates its 61st anniversary season with Trouble in Mind, written by playwright Alice Childress. Childress was the first African-American woman to have her plays professionally produced in New York, and she became the first woman of color to win an Obie Award, in 1956 for Trouble in Mind (Best Original Production).
