Following their hit holiday show A Klingon Christmas Carol, Commedia Beauregard is pleased to present the return of its wildly popular dark comedy BARD FICTION, a Shakespearean retelling of Quentin Tarantino's cult film classic Pulp Fiction, written by Ben Tallen, Aaron Greer, Brian Watson-Jones and the collaborative efforts of the Pulp Bard Wiki and directed and choreographed by Artistic Director Christopher Kidder-Mostrom. The seventh annual National High School Musical Theatre Awards / Jimmy Awards were held tonight, June 29, 2015, at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. This one-of-a-kind-event was hosted by two-time Tony Award-winner Michael Cerveris, currently on Broadway in this year's Best Musical Fun Home at Circle in the Square.

Happy Birthday, Charles Strouse! Strouse's first Broadway musical was the 1960 hit Bye Bye Birdie, with lyrics by Lee Adams, who would become his long time collaborator. Following this was Golden Boy (1964, also with Adams), starring Sammy Davis, Jr. and It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman (1966, based on the popular comic strip) which introduced the song 'You've Got Possibilities' sung by Linda Lavin. In 1970, Applause (starring Lauren Bacall, with book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and lyrics by Adams) won Strouse his second Tony Award. In 1977, Strouse adapted another comic strip for the stage, creating the hit Annie, which garnered him his third Tony Award and two Grammy Awards. Other Strouse musicals include Charlie and Algernon (1979), Dance a Little Closer (1983, with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner), Rags (1986), Nick & Nora (1993), and An American Tragedy (1995, with lyrics by David Shaber).

Next spring, Tony Award winners Audra McDonald, George C. Wolfe, and Savion Glover will team up to collaborate on SHUFFLE ALONG, Or, The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a musical about the events that led to the creation of the groundbreaking Eubie Blake-Noble Sissle musical Shuffle Along. Starring Audra McDonald as the 1920's star Lottie Gee, directed by George C. Wolfe -- with a book written by Wolfe -- and choreographed by Savion Glover, the musical marks the first time that the writer/director and choreographer will have worked together since their 1996 hit Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk. Previews will begin Monday, March 14, 2016. Opening night is Thursday, April 21, 2016 at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street).

Since their initial launch in 1993, the a cappella group The Kinsey Sicks have emerged as a cultural phenomenon within the LGBT community and far beyond. They've gone on to a multi-month run of their Off-Broadway show, seven CDs, concert appearances across the globe, and a plethora of music videos available on YouTube and elsewhere. Out of drag, they're known as Ben Schatz, Irwin Keller, Jeff Manabat and Spencer Brown. When in character with requisite costumes and makeup, they're Rachel, Winnie, Trixie and Trampolina. Either way, they've brought their delectable holiday show Oy Vey in a Manger! into the Metropolitan Room for a short stint (they'll appear again on Tuesday, December 9th at 7:00 PM and Wednesday, December 10th at 9:30 PM), for a nonstop hour of Yuletide merriment.

San Francisco, November 24, 2014 – Acclaimed contemporary opera company Opera Parallèle will open its 2015 season with the premiere of a new production of Jake Heggie's landmark work Dead Man Walking—marking the 15th anniversary of one of the most widely performed operas of the 21st century—in three performances Friday and Saturday, February 20 and 21, 2015 at 8 pm and Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 2 pm at YBCA Theater in San Francisco. Based on Sister Helen Prejean's memoir and passionate statement against capital punishment of the same title, Dead Man Walking plumbs the depths of human emotion, resilience, fortitude, hope, and redemption, making it an ideal subject for the operatic stage and for Opera Parallèle's brand of story-telling, exploring the human experience in provocative and intense stagings. The premiere will be followed by the Company taking to the road for the first time to present a concert version of Dead Man Walking at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, CA, March 7 and 8, 2015.
