The new Broadway production of the Tony Award nominated musical GREASE, opens in Milwaukee on February 23-28 presented by Broadway Across America-Milwaukee and the Marcus Center as part of the Time Warner Cable Broadway at the Marcus Center Series. Tickets will go on sale at NOON on December 6.

Arena Stage presents an innovative take on the world's longest-running musical, The Fantasticks by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt. Director Amanda Dehnert (Oregon Shakespeare Festival‘s All's Well That Ends Well and Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Cabaret) and famed set designer Eugene Lee (Tony Award for Broadway's Wicked, Candide, Sweeney Todd) take a spin on this timeless love story by staging it in Rocky Point, an abandoned amusement park in Rhode Island. This whimsical twist on the classic musical is full of buoyant humor, charming music and incredible magic that will thrill audiences of all ages. The Fantasticks runs November 20, 2009 - January 10, 2010 at Arena Stage at the Lincoln Theatre, with an official opening on Friday, November 27, 2009.

On November 16, 1959, The Sound of Music - the last musical collaboration of composer Richard Rodgers and lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II - made history when it opened at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theater. Masterworks Broadway celebrates that milestone with a special 50th anniversary edition of the musical's beloved original cast recording, starring Broadway legend Mary Martin. The 50th anniversary edition of the original cast recording of The Sound of Music will be released on November 3, 2009.

RIALTO CHATTER: THE 39 STEPS to Move Off-Broadway?

The New York Times is reporting that the producers of THE 39 STEPS have begun discussions to move the play to New World Stages (where it could take the place of The Toxic Avenger, which announced this morning that it was closing). No decisions have been made, but Bob Boyett, the lead producer, tells the paper that they hope to follow Avenue Q's successful lead if business arrangements can be made.

Alfred Hitchcock's THE 39 STEPS, Broadway's longest running comedy, plays its 700th performance tomorrow night, Tuesday, November 10, at the Helen Hayes Theatre (240 West 44th Street). At that performance, the production will tie the runs of such legendary plays as The Miracle Worker (1959) and That Championship Season (1972). THE 39 STEPS also recently passed such long-running shows as Purlie (1970), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1955), The Children's Hour (1934) and August: Osage County (2007).

She has chosen a phenomenal cast of BACP veterans and newcomers featuring Tom Berenson as Willie Clark and Brian Shoop as Al Lewis. The role of Ben Silverman, Willie?s nephew and agent, is played by Ron Friedberg. Rounding out the cast are Stephen Brown, Kelley Childers-Friedberg, Lori Jackson and Richard Perceful.
