Theater Resources Unlimited to Honor Randall Wreghitt at 2013 TRU Love Benefit, 11/17

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) will celebrate its 22nd year as a not-for-profit service organization with a celebration of three extraordinary people at the annual TRU Love Benefit, Honoring Friendship, Remembering Friends. The 2013 TRU Spirit of Theater Award, presented to a member of the producing community who has demonstrated exceptional generosity, support and kindness to others in the business, will be posthumously awarded to producer Randall Wreghitt (Little Women, Beauty Queen of Leenane, Grey Gardens, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Golda's Balcony, As Bees in Honey Drown, The Food Chain) who died unexpectedly at the age of 55 in May 2011. The event will take place Sunday, November 17th at Caroline's on Broadway at 47th Street. (more...)

In a production commissioned by the Finborough Theatre, Anders Lustgarten's Black Jesus receives its world premiere at the Finborough Theatre, playing for a four week season from Tuesday, 1 October 2013 (Press Night: Thursday, 3 October 2013 at 7.30pm). A sold-out workshop production of Black Jesus at the Harare International Festival of Arts, Zimbabwe, was described by the Guardian as 'a highlight of the festival'. (more...)

SHREK THE MUSICAL Comes to Glasgow, April 29-May 17, 2015

Producers of SHREK THE MUSICAL today announced that the larger-than-life production will coming to the King's Theatre on 29 April Sunday 17 May 2015, direct from London, where it was seen live on stage by nearly a million people. SHREK THE MUSICAL will be directing by Nigel Harman who starred as Lord Farquaad in the west end production, winning him the 2012 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Performance in a Supporting Role in a Musical. Marlo Thomas to Lead World Premiere of Joe DiPietro's CLEVER LITTLE LIES at George Street Playhouse; Performances to Begin 11/19

George Street Playhouse and Artistic Director David Saint have announced the casting of MARLO THOMAS, award-winning actress of stage and screen, in the world premiere production of Clever Little Lies, by Tony Award-winner JOE DiPIETRO (rescheduled from the 2012-13 season). TRU Hosts First Meeting of Producer Development and Mentorship Program

Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) celebrated the season's first meeting of the TRU Producer Development & Mentorship Program on Monday, September 23 at Langham Place, 400 Fifth Avenue in midtown New York City. The evening was an opportunity for 53 mentee members to meet and mingle with the program directors, producers Michael Alden (Becoming Dr. Ruth, The King's Speech on stage, Grey Gardens, Sarah Jones' Bridge & Tunnel, Bat Boy), Patrick Blake (The Exonerated, In the Continuum, Play Dead) and Patricia Klausner producing manager of Shotgun Productions and commercial producer (Pippin, The Trip to Bountiful, Stick Fly, The Scottsboro Boys), plus prospective mentors for the coming year who will guide and advise them on their producing goals. Theater Resources Unlimited (TRU) announces a preliminary lineup of star performers, and a luminous array of theater notables including Andre Bishop, Terrence McNally and James Naughton, who will help celebrate three extraordinary people at the annual TRU Love Benefit, Honoring Friendship, Remembering Friends. The trio of TRU friends who will be remembered and honored are producer Randall Wreghitt (Little Women, Beauty Queen of Leenane, Grey Gardens, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, Golda's Balcony, As Bees in Honey Drown, The Food Chain) who died unexpectedly at the age of 55 in May 2011, and will be posthumously remembered with the 2013 TRU Spirit of Theater Award; Michael Feingold, former critic with the Village Voice, who will receive the TRU Humanitarian Award for educating generations of theatergoers about the historical, social and cultural context of the shows he reviews; and TRU member and program director Patricia R. Klausner, who will be recognized and applauded with the TRU Entrepreneur Award for her ongoing dedication in both the not-for-profit and commercial producing arenas. (more...)

The producers of Cinderella announced today that television and film star Fran Drescher will make her Broadway debut as Cinderella's stepmother Madame, beginning performances on February 4th for a 10-week run through April 13 at the Broadway Theatre (1681 Broadway). Rain Pryor to Bring FRIED CHICKEN & LATKES to Tammany Hall, 12/11

RAIN PRYOR stars in this effervescent solo show, which recounts her upbringing in a biracial household (her mother was Jewish) in Beverly Hills, Calif. Ms. Pryor, who sings & portrays a range of characters (including, poignantly, her father Richard in a spot-on impression), will appear in FRIED CHICKEN & LATKES for one performance only, Wednesday, December 11th at 8:30pm. World Premiere of COUNTY LINE to Open 1/16 at Performance Network Theatre

From January 16 through February 16 Performance Network Theatre presents the world premiere of the 2013 National New Play Network Showcase Selection and Edgerton Award-Winning inspiring drama 'County Line' by David Wells, who made his Performance Network debut in last season's audience favorite comedy, 'Brill'. He is a University of Michigan Alumnus and one of Michigan's most popular emerging playwrights. 'County Line', directed by David Wolber, is a coming-of-age story set in rural Kansas and explores the challenges young adults may face in foster homes, the lasting effects these memories can have on a person, and how 17-year-old Lois is able to overcome anything that is thrown her way.
