Jerry Zaks To Direct Pre-Broadway MRS. DOUBTFIRE at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre This Fall

Producer Kevin McCollum announced today that the new musical, Mrs. Doubtfire, will premiere at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre this fall on route to Broadway.  The musical features a book Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell and music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, the Tony Award nominated team behind Something Rotten!  Four-time Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks (Hello, Dolly!) will direct and Lorin Latarro (Waitress) will choreograph.  Ethan Popp (Tina) will serve as Music Supervisor.

Building on the previous success of the “Summer Fun & Games” brand, The ABC Television Network is expanding its slate of game shows to three nights, adding four new exciting series to the upcoming schedule. In addition to bringing back the iconic “Press Your Luck” and “Card Sharks” to TV, ABC will launch two new alternative shows – “Holey Moley,” an epic mini-golf competition featuring NBA superstar Stephen Curry as resident golf pro; and “Family Food Fight,” hosted by renowned restaurateur and New York Times best-selling cookbook author Ayesha Curry. All of these shows are part of the summer premiere dates schedule announced today by the network.

The evening's repertoire is characterized by choreography and music inspired by worldwide sources, reflecting American society and its multiplicity of cultures, with contributing artists including Silk Road Ensemble member Kevork Mourad, Grammy Award winner Kinan Azmeh, and Battery Dance Founder and Artistic Director Jonathan Hollander. Fifteen screenwriters from countries including the U.S., Lebanon, South Africa, Turkey, and the United Kingdom will bring twelve projects to the Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab, taking place January 18-23, 2019 at the Sundance Mountain Resort in Utah. The Lab provides an immersive environment that encourages all participants to embrace a spirit of creative risk-taking and collaboration, and imparts vital lessons in the art and craft of screenwriting while building a robust creative community. Through one-on-one story sessions with Creative Advisors, Fellows take part in an artistically rigorous process that facilitates the deep exploration needed to fully realize their material. Blending history with the atmosphere of an underground speakeasy, this world is brought to life by the bar's live house band, playing an eclectic selection of music from the WWII era as well as stylized interpretations of modern music meant to invoke the fire & frenzy of a world at war. The story revolves around two young sisters infiltrate an underground bar catering to jazz-loving Nazis who find an escape in the music they are meant to forbid. One SS Lieutenant in particular welcomes a sweet romance, though the sisters have been tasked to seduce him to a darker fate. The nearby woods await revenge as music, dancing, boozing and secrets weave together to unlock this wild tale of youthful resistance.

Bishop Arts Theatre Company Celebrates 25 Years Of Artistry, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

Oak Cliff's premiere multicultural and multidiscipline center for the arts, Bishop Arts Theatre Center (BATC), is celebrating a milestone this year with the announcement of its 25th Anniversary Silver Threads Season. Executive Artistic Director Teresa Coleman Wash and Board of Directors President Boderick Hall announced this morning a season that is filled with theatre, jazz, special events, a speaker series, arts education initiatives and the return of Langston Hughes' Black Nativity for its 15th year on stage with Bishop Arts Theatre Center. Founder and Executive Artistic Director Teresa Wash was jubilant with the announcement stating, 'For 25 years the Bishop Arts Theatre Center has been a cornerstone of the arts & culture in our community. Twenty-five years after federal agents raided an armed religious compound outside of Waco, Texas that was led by self-proclaimed messiah David Koresh, a new documentary tells the inside story of the sect and the bloody battle that resulted in one of the longest standoffs in American history. Featuring previously unseen archival footage and using only firsthand accounts by survivors and those directly involved in the tragedy, WACO: THE LONGEST SIEGE looks at unexplored facets of the Waco story, the Branch Davidians and their charismatic leader, and the uneasy relationship between the media and national law enforcement agencies, which further complicated the deadly series of events that claimed 75 lives, including 25 children. WACO: THE LONGEST SIEGE premieres Monday, April 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel.

The Old Globe, together with Children's Theatre Company (CTC), and in partnership with The Old Vic, today announced details for the Minneapolis and San Diego productions of Dr. Seuss's The Lorax in its U.S. premiere. The production, based on the book The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, is adapted for the stage by David Greig (Artistic Director of the Royal Lyceum Theatre Company; recent work: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Cover My Tracks) with music and lyrics written by Charlie Fink (Frontman/songwriter for the hit musical group, Noah and the Whale (2007-2015). H. Adam Harris, along with Meghan Kreidler and Rick Miller puppeteering, will play The Lorax. Joining them is Steven Epp as The Once-ler.
