Horace Vandergelder, a wealthy merchant in 19th-century Yonkers, NY, decides to take a wife and employs a matchmaker, Mrs. Dolly Levi. Dolly subsequently becomes involved with two of Vandergelder's clerks, several lovely ladies, and the headwaiter at an expensive restaurant, where this swift farce runs headlong into hilarious complications. After everyone gets straightened out romantically, Vandergelder finds himself affianced to the astute Dolly Levi herself.



The Matchmaker opened on Broadway in 1955 and ran for 486 performances, Wilder's Broadway record, and closed in 1957. It was later adapted into the musical Hello, Dolly!.

Bravo takes a bite out of the big apple as 'The Millionaire Matchmaker' scored its highest rated season premiere among all key demos, according to Nielsen Media Research. The season four premiere delivered 1.3 million total viewers and 874,000 adults 18-49, marking double-digit growth with a 15 percent increase among total viewers and adults 18-49 from the season three premiere (1/19/10). On the day of the premiere, BravoTV.com's showsite for 'The Millionaire Matchmaker' generated over 20,000 daily uniques and over 37,000 video streams, which was an impressive 44 percent and 426 percent increase from the previous season's premiere respectively.

Lehrer Promoted to VP of Bravo Media Development, Effective Immediately
