A brand new non-profit youth arts center, The PinkCricket Center for Arts Education, will celebrate its Grand Opening in downtown St. Petersburg on Aug. 24. This year, the prestigious National Black Theatre Festival? will honor Jubilee Theatre Artistic Director Ed Smith with the festival's first annual Lloyd Richards' Director's Award. Smith is receiving this award because of his significant contributions to black theatre and American theatre in general. The festival will be held from August 3 through 8, 2009 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The theme for this year's festival remains the same as the past ten festivals: An International Celebration and Reunion of Spirit. Mr. Smith will be presented with the award at the Opening Night Gala Awards Banquet, which will be held on Monday, August 3.

The New Group, currently represented Off-Broadway by Ian Bruce's play Groundswell, is pleased to announce its upcoming 2009-2010 season. Leading next season with previews beginning in October 2009 is the world premiere of The Starry Messenger by Kenneth Lonergan, featuring Matthew Broderick. The season continues with a major revival of A Lie of the Mind by Sam Shepard, directed by Ethan Hawke (previews begin January 2010).

Country music star, CMA Winner, ACM Winner and four-time Grammy Nominee Joe Nichols has been offered the role made famous by George Strait in the Broadway production of the hit movie, Pure Country. According to producer Randall L. Wreghitt, the musical is in the process of securing the remainder of its financing and casting, and plans to open in early 2010.
