Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Aaron Jay Kernis's a Voice, a Messenger, a World Premiere-New York Philharmonic Co- Commission with the Big Band Association, featuring Philharmonic Principal Trumpet Philip Smith, and the New York Premiere of Christopher Rouse's Oboe Concerto, with Principal Oboe Liang Wang, Tuesday, December 28, 2010, Wednesday, December 29, and Thursday, December 30, at 7:30 p.m. Also on the program: Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins, RV 580, performed by Philharmonic violinists Sheryl Staples, Michelle Kim, Marc Ginsberg, and Lisa Kim; Hindemith's Horn Concerto, played by Principal Horn Philip Myers; and Ravel's Boléro.

The result is Glass' Violin Concerto No. 2, The American Four Seasons, which McDuffie debuted last year.

Mesa Contemporary Arts (MCA) will showcase four exhibitions this fall, featuring the astonishing artwork of Contemporary American Indian artists from across the country. The Museum of Modern Art's Summergarden concert series returns to The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden for four Sunday evenings beginning July 11, 2010. Summergarden, a tradition that began in 1971, is part of MoMA's long history of presenting jazz and classical music, including several premieres, in the Sculpture Garden. MoMA once again welcomes the participation of The Juilliard School and Jazz at Lincoln Center, whose collaboration makes Summergarden possible.

Lat night's win of four 2010 Tony® Awards for the Broadway hit MEMPHIS, including "Best Musical," was cause for celebration at TheatreWorks, the Silicon Valley theatre company that gave birth to the musical. The show was developed at TheatreWorks' 2002 New Works Festival and received its world premiere in 2004 on TheatreWorks' Mainstage. Since then, MEMPHIS has been working its way to Broadway, where it made its debut last October.

At a press conference yesterday the Oregon Shakespeare Festival provided a comprehensive picture of the scope of new work underway over the next several season supported by grants totaling more than $800,000. OSF recently received a grant of $600,000 from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation over three years (2010-2012) for the decade-long commissioning, production, and public dialogue initiative American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle. The Edgerton Foundation of Los Angeles, California awarded OSF a four-year $200,000 grant to support the commissioning of five new American musicals, putting OSF in the unique position of creating new American musicals with a resident acting company.

New Perspectives Theatre Company (Melody Brooks, Artistic Director) will end its run of Hamlet, its first main stage Shakespeare play since losing its Pelican Studio Theatre four years ago, on May 23rd. The production is directed by Melody Brooks at Shetler Studios' Theatre 54 (244 West 54th St., 12th Floor).
