Founded in 1973 by acclaimed choreographer Lin Hwai-min as the first contemporary dance company in any Chinese-speaking community, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan features a repertoire rooted in Asian mythology, folklore, and aesthetics with a modern sensibility. Returning to the Northwest for the first time since Vancouver's 2010 Cultural Olympiad, the company makes their Seattle debut with Songs of the Wanderers, a visually stunning work inspired by Siddhartha's quest for enlightenment and brought to life on an astonishing set of 3-1/2 tons of shimmering golden grains of rice. Lin Hwai-min will accompany Cloud Gate to Seattle for their UW World Series engagement.

Opening the programme in the Park200 is Charles Court's production of the seldom performed Rogers/Sondheim musical Do I Hear A Waltz?. The seasons continues with Engine House's production of Bomber's Moon, written by celebrated screenwriter William Ivory (Made in Dagenham, Burton and Taylor), and is completed by the world premiere of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, a tale of revenge set in the Wild West, adapted by Jethro Compton from the short story by Dorothy M. Johnson.

(MAR) and G Holdings today announced the opening of an iconic addition to the New York City skyline, a combined 378-room Courtyard hotel and 261-suite Residence Inn hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The $320 million tallest single-use hotel in North America is located at 1717 Broadway. Built and owned by G Holdings and managed by Interstate Hotels & Resorts, the dual-branded hotel will provide employment for 160 associates in the New York area.

Wallach Artist-in-Residence Yefim Bronfman (May 20, 2014), who will talk about Beethoven's piano concertos (which he will perform during The Beethoven Piano Concertos: A Philharmonic Festival, June 11-28, 2014); and discussions relating to the NY PHIL BIENNIAL, the details of which will be announced at a later date. On September 21, Macchia--who works full-time as a florist by day and part-time as a manager at the Metropolitan Room by night--will celebrate his 'Fierce and Fabulous' 40th birthday with the launch of Season Eight of Cabaret Cares. Over the first seven years of the variety series, now staged at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, Macchia has raised more than $80,000 to help children from infants to teenagers suffering from HIV and AIDS. During the first year, funds raised through the Cabaret Cares benefit shows helped 22 children. Now Macchia's Help Is On The Way charity-which is run out of Joseph's home and has no salaried staff--services around 650 kids, supplying everything from school backpacks to weeks at a summer camp.
