Work of Eco-Theater JUPITER to Play LaMaMa in February
by Tyler Peterson - Jan 7, 2016

'JUPITER (a play about power)' by Superhero Clubhouse and Kaimera Productions is an argument of soaring irony and logic between humanity and a dude with one-time magic who has made all fossil fuels disappear permanently from the Earth. That's not such an unbelievable premise, when you think about it, because in terms of our global history, we are on the brink of an energy systems overhaul. Some 'man at the switch' could at any time begin shutting our industrial civilization down. Oh, we'll be indignant then. Now imagine a philosophical debate between this overlord and a woman who represents all of humankind. That is the one-act 'dream play' that will be offered to us by playwright Jeremy Pickard, director Simon Adinia Hanukai and musician/energy policy specialist Jonathan Camuzeaux, presented by La Mama from February 11-28, 2016.

A British Invasion: Stars Cross the Pond to Light Up Broadway This Fall!
by Nicole Rosky - Oct 25, 2015

'[Thank you] to an incredible cast of British and American actors who make the Atlantic look like a little creek you can just kind of pop across,' said Dame Helen Mirren upon receiving her 2015 Tony Award. The stage and screen star reprised her critically-acclaimed performance in THE AUDIENCE after a West End run in 2013, and she was just one of many to 'pop across' an ocean for a stab at Broadway.  An unprecedented amount of British talent took over Broadway last year, bringing us such productions as THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME, WOLF HALL: PARTS 1 & 2, and SKYLIGHT.   It doesn't seem like the trend is ending anytime soon. This fall, Broadway will welcome a slew of British actors- some of whom will be making their US stage debuts in incoming productions. And it's not just performers. We're getting some complete British imports in shows like A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE and KING CHARLES III. Below, we're taking a moment to shine a spotlight on this season's British imports.

BWW Feature: Celebrate 'The Lusty Month of May' with 10 Hot-Blooded Showtunes
by Jeffrey Walker - May 25, 2015

The Lusty Month of May; like the song says: 'It's time to do a wicked thing or two!' It's May, the time when spring brings that hot-blooded, four letter word: lust. Musicals have had a steady history of lusty musical numbers. There are songs about rolling in the hay, and others extolling the virtues of different (ahem) flavors of man-candy. Some songs are paens to hot, steamy nights, and some are about what you do on those kind of nights.

Hillbarn Theatre Closes 2014-15 Season with CURTAINS, Beginning Tonight
by BWW News Desk - May 7, 2015

Hillbarn Theatre, the Peninsula's premier community theatre company, concludes its 2014-2015 season with Kander and Ebb's award-winning musical, Curtains. From the creative team behind Chicago and Cabaret - and a book by Rupert Holmes - Curtains is a hilariously entertaining whodunit with a clever and contagiously catchy toe-tapping score. It's opening night at Boston's Colonial Theatre and the leading lady has mysteriously died on stage, leaving the cast and crew as suspects. Local detective Frank Cioffi, a theater fan and amateur actor, arrives to conduct the investigation. As the body count rises and secrets spill, Cioffi becomes more and more involved in saving the musical than solving the case. Curtains debuted on Broadway in 2007 and was nominated for eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Original Score. Curtains will run May 7 -31, 2015 at Hillbarn Theatre (1285 East Hillsdale Blvd., Foster City). Performances are Todays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Press night for Curtains will be on Friday, May 8, 2015.
