ENTERSHAMEMENT to Run at Pasadena Playhouse, 5/22-30; IN MY CORNER Set for 5/31

The Pasadena Playhouse has updated the performance schedule for two unusual one-person shows - Amy G in Entershamement and Joe Orrach in In My Corner - to reopen the newly re-designed Carrie Hamilton Theatre. Entershamement has a limited run of five performances, while In My Corner runs for one night only. With these shows, that perform May 22 to May 31, The Playhouse is relighting the refurbished Carrie Hamilton Theatre, which has been changed from a proscenium theatre to a black box, and can be configured to accommodate many different kinds of productions. Writer, actor and activist Timothy Conigrave's best-selling memoir (winner of the United Nations Human Rights Award for Non-Fiction and listed as one of the '100 Favorite Australian Books' by the Australian Society of Authors) is one of Australia's great love stories. The stage version by Tommy Murphy captures all its special magic. Producers Nick Hardcastle and Nate Jones launch their newly formed Australian Theatre Company with the Los Angeles premiere of Holding the Man, featuring an all-Australian cast and directed by veteran Hollywood acting coach Larry Moss. Stewart, best known to TV audiences for 3rd Rock from the Sun, the middle and other sitcoms is a wonderful dramatic actor, and as Buster Keaton in Stoneface, which sold out houses for months at Sacred Fools Theatre in 2012, he just shines. Playwrights Union to Host 5th Annual First Peek Reading Series, 5/17-18

The Playwrights Union, a network of Los Angeles theater artists writing for stage, tv and film, hosts its fifth annual FIRST PEEK reading series of new work, May 17 and 18 at Monk Space in Koreatown. Original plays were first drafted during a month-long writing challenge in February. Plays have been finished or re-written in the weeks leading up to the Festival. Readings start at 2pm on Saturday and 1:30pm on Sunday. Tickets are free, but donations are suggested. There will be a Reception with Small Bites from Chef JC (aka PU member Jonathan Ceniceroz) and tunes from DJ Mad Joint (aka PU member Terence Anthony) starting at 8:30pm on Saturday. (more...)
