Award-winning actress Dipti Mehta's new solo-show, HONOUR: Confessions of a Mumbai Courtesan comes to The 20th Annual New York Fringe Festival in August. Dipti, who was born and raised in Mumbai and currently resides in New Jersey, also stars in the show. She has numerous film and television credits including The Blacklist (NBC), and The Golden Boy (CBS). In addition acting and writing, she also holds a Ph. D in Molecular and Cellular Biology and works at Sloan Kettering in cancer research. The play is directed and dramaturged by Mark Cirnigliaro who has worked extensively in theatre for the past 16 years. Recent directing credits include the World Premiere of The Hounds of War by Bill Holland which Broadway World called, 'A must see,' and the critically acclaimed production of The Judgment of Fools by Bernardo Cubria for INTAR Theatre. New Children's Theatre Launch BEYOND IMAGINATION

Imagine Project, a brand new children's theatre company focusing on gender equity, diversity, and inclusion, will launch its new company with Beyond Imagination, a gala event on Sunday, August 21, 2016 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Colony Theatre Company in Burbank, CA. Imagine Project will be the only union theatre company in Los Angeles dedicated solely to children's programming. The event is free and open to the public but RSVP registration is required at The evening will feature complimentary food, wine, live entertainment, and an auction. Dress code is 'cocktail swanky.' Actor Jeffrey Landman, best known as Billy Hill in the Halloween film franchise, will serve as MC for the gala. John Achorn, Karl Ramsey, and Juliette Storace, of the Commedia dell'Arte Studio Zanni, will also perform. The launch event will serve as a fundraiser for the new theatre company. Proceeds will be used to fund production costs for The Tale of Turandot by Armina LaManna, Imagine Project's inaugural production slated for early 2017. (more...)

Longest Running Broadway Revue to Open at Alhambra

Nominated for eight Tony® Awards, Smokey Joe's Cafe is a musical revue showcasing 39 pop standards from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's, including rock and roll and rhythm and blues songs written by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The Original Broadway cast recording, Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs Of Leiber And Stoller, won a Grammy Award in 1996. After a Los Angeles tryout, the revue opened on Broadway in 1995, running for 2,036 performances, making it the longest -running musical revue in Broadway history. It also had a London run in 1996. The show will open at Jacksonville's Alhambra Theatre & Dining on August 3, 2016. (more...)

Company of Fools Artist John Glenn Receives Excellence in the Arts Governor's Award

Company of Fools and Sun Valley Center for the Arts are pleased to announce that Core Company Artist John Glenn is among the 2016 recipients of the Governor's Awards in the Arts. Governor C. L. Butch Otter and First Lady Lori Otter announced this year's honorees in August.  Glenn received the Excellence in the Arts distinction.  This is the third award from Idaho's Governors in Company of Fools' 21 year history - Denise Simone, Core Company Artist, received the 2014 Excellence in the Arts and in 2004 Company of Fools was awarded the same distinction. BWW REVIEW: Voices and Emotions Soar in Ogunquit's HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME

The Ogunquit Playhouse in southern Maine has been setting the bar higher and higher with each new production under Bradford T. Kenney, artistic director. What used to be a quintessential ocean-side summer stock house now operates from May through November, often mounting New England, and occasionally national, regional premieres. Its current musical, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, is the company's most ambitious venture yet. Adapted from the 1996 Disney animated film which was based on the classic Victor Hugo novel "Notre Dame de Paris," the Ogunquit production boasts a towering vaulted set design, a 21-member cast of Broadway veterans, and a tremendous 32-member choir. This HUNCHBACK delivers soaring vocals as big as its epic themes. (more...)
