by Pat Cerasaro - Mar 18, 2015

One of the most popular stories of the year so far, the unexpected announcement of a special one night only charity concert performance of a fan favorite musical-within-the-series from NBC's musical series SMASH, BOMBSHELL, to benefit the Actors Fund, is already a huge hit here on BroadwayWorld, and, now we bring you an exclusive chat with two elemental figures in the creation of the project, songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, all about the hotly anticipated evening. As part of our conversation, Shaiman and Wittman offer up a slew of new details on what plans are currently in place for the unprecedented SMASH reunion as well as shares first reactions to the wildly successful Kickstarter campaign that has already racked up more the $230,000 in donations in only a few short days, having begun with a goal of $50,000 when the event was first announced last week. Additionally, Shaiman and Wittman parse the finer points of the BOMBSHELL score and outline what fans can expect from the songstack on the evening as well as preliminary staging and presentational plans and also what the momentum engendered by BOMBSHELL could lead to in the future, near and far. Plus, Shaiman and Wittman comment on the recent rousing performance of SMASH standout 'I Can't Let Go' performed by Jennifer Hudson on the 2015 Academy Awards. All of that and much, much more!

BWW Recap: 'Life's a Shipwreck' on BOARDWALK EMPIRE
by Jessica Naftaly - Oct 6, 2014

BOARDWALK EMPIRE came in strong this week with assassination attempts, affairs, pregnancies and cockroaches galore! The fifth episode of BOARDWALK's final season entitled 'King of Norway' was one of the best of this season as we had some real movement and development. One of the biggest issues I had with the last four episodes was that as we neared the halfway mark of the last season, there was still no clear direction or driving force for the season. We had through line connecting all the dots and pointing us to what to expect coming forward and now, we're finally laying the groundwork for the real major plot points of the season. More than halfway there, it seems like these last four episodes were one big premiere episode, laying the groundwork for the actual season.

by Patrick Brassell - Jul 21, 2014

The lines aren't ancient at all; the dialogue makes perfect sense, the jokes become hilarious, and the physical comedy is as well-played as a Three Stooges routine.

Over the past ten years, Independent Shakespeare Co. has staked its claim on the city of Los Angeles with its 'of the people, by the people, for the people' brand of Shakespeare. BWW Blog: Meet Ashley Arcement of FLASHDANCE! National Tour - What Happens in Vegas…
by Guest Blogger: Ashley Arcement - Feb 4, 2014

This was my first week performing in the National Tour of Flashdance - The Musical! Don't ask me why, but I was pretty ecstatic to make my debut in "Sin City." We may have spent more time dancing after the shows than during… I am an onstage swing, which means I am in five numbers in the show but also understudy the five girls in the ensemble. Oh, and I cover Tess, Gloria, Kiki, and Miss Wilde. If I go on for any of these tracks my regular track is simply cut. Done.

t's been 40 years - 40 years! - since THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW hit a London stage and had a 5-year run as a popular musical. Think about that kind of staying power, and you will understand why audiences continue to flock to midnight showings of the 1975 film inspired by the musical. You'll also see why it captures new audiences, as in 2010 when the popular TV show 'Glee' used it as the basis for a plot.
