Today, we very proudly shine the spotlight on PSM Daniel Brewer, the dean of production stage managers in this region, and the resident stage manager at Nashville Children's Theatre. In 2011, he was among that year's First Night Honorees in recognition of his truly exceptional career and for the grace and skill with which he does his job. In fact, we wouldn't be at all surprise to find his headshot next to the very definition of "stage manager" in reference books.

Established in 1991, All Out Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit devoted to bringing together the diverse artistic, organizational, political and financial resources of the LGBTQ community in order to fight intolerance. All Out Arts fulfills its mission by supporting arts organizations within the community through fiscal sponsorship, events, contests, collaborations, networking events for emerging artists, and by sponsoring productions, concerts and exhibitions of visual arts. We confront homophobia through the humanizing influence of the arts, and the Fresh Fruit Festival is the primary expression of the All Out Arts mission.

Author Patricia McKissack, who produced children's books about black history with her husband, passed away on April 7th at the age of 72.  According to her son, Fredrick L. McKissack Jr., the cause was cardiorespiratory arrest.

Palm Beach Dramaworks Announces World Premiere of Terry Teachout's BILLY AND ME

Billy and Me, a new play by Terry Teachout, whose Satchmo at the Waldorf has been produced to great acclaim Off-Broadway and throughout the country, will receive its world premiere next season at Palm Beach Dramaworks. 'A work of fiction freely based on fact,' the play speculates on the tempestuous friendship between playwrights Tennessee Williams and William Inge. PBD Producing Artistic Director William Hayes, who suggested the idea to Teachout, will direct the premiere, which runs from December 8, 2017 through January 7, 2018.

The UCSB Department of Theater and Dance Presents SANTA BARBARA DANCE THEATER

Artistic Director of Santa Barbara Dance Theater since 2012 (UC Santa Barbara's professional dance company in residence), Pilafian is at this writing preparing for the company's winter season, Anima and Animus, which will roll out over two weekends of performances at UCSB's Hatlen Theater, January 13-22. The program includes works by guest choreographer Becca Lemme, Brandon Whited (UCSB Theater and Dance Assistant Professor- and newly minted dance faculty member), and Artistic Director Pilafian himself. Also, included in the program will be a work by mid-century firebrand choreographer (and dancer for the dispossessed) Jane Dudley, as restaged by longtime Dudley interpreter Nancy Colahan. Is there a thread that connects these seemingly disparate dance pieces? Pilafian replies without hesitation.
