Bookworks' IT'S ABOUT BOOKS For January
by BWW News Desk - Jan 31, 2014

Without a doubt Alexandra Fuller is one of my most favorite authors. Her first book, Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight, is a delightfully funny yet poignant backward look at her childhood in Africa. The latest,Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness, is, at first glance a charming, delightfully funny account of her mother's life as a child when she was growing up in Africa. Fuller never loses her sense of humor and there are numerous chuckle out loud moments where she uses her mother's own words to paint for us an undeniably brilliant picture of just who her mother is and what is important to her. BWW Reviews: Entertainer Extraordinaire Sam Harris Presents 'Liter-usical' - Now That's Entertainment!
by Linda Hodges - Jan 31, 2014

Riding the wave of enthusiasm for his newly released book 'Ham: Slices of a Life,' singer and entertainer extraordinaire Sam Harris played to a sold-out crowd at Feinstein's at the Nikko in San Francisco. They came expecting a great show and he did not disappoint. Calling his performance a 'liter-usical,' a combination of literary book tour and Broadway musical extravaganza, he alternated between reading juicy morsels (amuse-bouche, if you will) from his book with songs that served to highlight the chapters of his life. New Book Series, THE GOLD HOUSE Trilogy Brings White Sands Missile Range and the Victorio Peak Treasure to Life
by BWW News Desk - Feb 3, 2014

When John Dean told the Senate Watergate committee about a luncheon meeting and 'an enormous amount of gold' held by clients of attorney F. Lee Bailey at White Sands Missile Range, the White House/White Sands connection was made. The authors allege documents and eyewitness testimony point to the theft of more than $1 billion during the Thanksgiving weekend in November 1973. Shortly after the theft was reported, FBI Agent Herb Greathouse was assigned to investigate. Clarence and Whittle allege that Greathouse's ostensible probe 'was used in a cover-up of the theft.' As the authors note, 'the question is whether or not Greathouse was under orders to suppress information and turn the investigation away from Nixon. If so, were the orders initialed by Nixon himself?' (more...)

BWW Reviews: Public Theatre Explores the Absurd Side of Dysfunction
by Carla Maria Verdino-Sllwold - Feb 2, 2014

Lewiston's Public Theatre has mounted a stylish, wistful, zany production of Kim Rosenstock's Tigers Be Still, a bittersweet comedy that looks at the absurd side of dysfunction. The play, which had its premiere at New York's Roundabout Theatre, tells the intertwined stories of two families who have been immobilized by loss and their struggle to emerge from depression and move forward with their lives. Narrated by the daughter Sherry, whose recently acquired job as an art therapist gives her the impetus to shake her gloom, the play draws an ironic contrast between Sherry's newfound optimism and the darker realities of the other characters. Ever lurking in the background is the metaphorical - and actual - threat of a tiger escaped from the zoo - the nameless fear that paralyzes action until at last confronted toward the end of the play.
