The Drama League to Host Centennial Gala in November

The Drama League, embarking on a landmark year of celebration commemorating its 100 years of service to the American theater, announced today The Drama League Centennial Gala set for Monday evening, November 2, 2015 at The Plaza (768 Fifth Avenue). Cocktails and silent auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. followed by dinner and performance at 8:00 p.m.  Special Guests and performers will be announced at a later date.  The Centennial Gala Committee is now in formation; tables and seats are available by calling (212) 244-9494.

The New School's Mannes School of Music and Parsons School of Design co-present the New York City premiere of Flight, by composer Jonathan Dove. New Brooklyn Theatre has dedicated its 2015 season to the past, present, and future of African-American women playwrights. In 2014, the company staged a series of readings of historic but neglected African-American plays from the 1850s to the 1930s with the promise that audiences would help the company select one for a full production. In 2015, the company will fulfill that promise by producing audience favorite Rachel by Angelina Weld Grimke.

Bernard Haitink Conducts Two Programs With NY Phil to Celebrate 60th Conducting Season & 85th Birthday, Now thru 5/17

Bernard Haitink will return to the New York Philharmonic to conduct two weeks of performances highlighting works by Austrian composers - Berg, Webern, and Mahler - and Beethoven, who spent much of his career in Austria. In the first program, Mr. Haitink will conduct Webern's Im Sommerwind, Berg's Violin Concerto with Leonidas Kavakos, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, Eroica, tonight, May 8, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, May 10 at 8:00 p.m. Bernard Haitink's appearances are part of an international, season-wide celebration of the 60th anniversary of his conducting debut with the Netherlands Radio Union Orchestra (now the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra) and his 85th birthday.
