by Scott Moreau - Jun 29, 2013

Les Mis. A French title, and a show so popular it has its own nickname. When the show premiered in London in 1985, some people wondered how on earth Victor Hugo's masterpiece of a novel could be turned into a musical. Those people have long since been silenced. Les Miserables has become one of the world's most beloved musicals, and Maine State Music Theatre's current production proves exactly why.

SIX DANCE LESSONS IN SIX WEEKS Opens Tonight at Sierra Rep
by BWW News Desk - May 31, 2013

When dance teacher Michael Minetti first meets his elderly student Lily Harrison in her Florida-coast high rise, it seems pretty clear these two will barely make it past 'Hello,' let alone their first full lesson. Besides their 30-year age difference, they clash at every turn. A former teacher and minister's wife, she's guarded, uptight and suspicious. A former Broadway dancer, he blurts out jokes and insults and swings from glib to desperate to nonchalant in 10 seconds flat. It's fun to watch, but how will they make it through a six-week dance course? That's the hilarious and touching journey that unfolds in Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks, a new comedy that opens at Sierra Rep's East Sonora Theatre stage tonight, May 31.

Review - Fiorello!
by Michael Dale - Feb 3, 2013

In musicals like Fiddler On The Roof, She Loves Me and The Apple Tree, the team Jerry Bock (music) and Sheldon Harnick (lyrics) once graced Broadway with scores that found poetry and elegance in the lives of everyday people.  But nowhere is that more apparent than in the boisterously fun and heavily New York accented, Fiorello!, a celebration of the early career of Fiorello LaGuardia, the city's enormously popular 99th mayor.

Glee-Cap: Naked.
by Robert Lawlor - Jan 31, 2013

Alright, guys - it's time to get naked. ..Whoa, hold up - put your clothes back on, please - you do not need to be to enjoy this episode, besides it's totally an allegory for baring your soul. ..No, seriously - put your damn clothes back on, sheesh. Well, onto the episode! The Warblers have been stripped of their Sectionals victory after testing positive for performance enhancers, pushing New Directions back into the competition. Tina proposes the idea of a 'Men of McKinley' calendar to raise the last four hundred dollars for Regionals, but not all the guys seem to be on board. Rachel nails an audition for a student film, but when the script calls for a topless scene, she battles with her 'old' self and in typical Rachel form - sings about it, with herself - on 'Torn' by Natalie Imbruglia. Get it? She's torn? Ultimately, Rachel agrees to do the scene.

Glee's back bitches - you ready to tackle one of the most popular musicals of all time? No, not Shrek: The Musical - although, let's be real - the competition for Fiona would be FIERCE. I'd vote for Blaine - he'd kill it as a sassy ginger princess. Grease is still the word - isn't it? Can we get confirmation on that? Oh well, we go together, Gleeks! Let's get Grease Lightning on the road! Blaine is completely a mess after his break up with Kurt, leaving him completely unfocused on the upcoming auditions for Grease. Taking to Sandy's classic tune of "Hopelessly Devoted to You", Blaine lets his sorrows flow, impressing Finn and Artie, but the heartbroken former Warbler turns down the role of Danny due to his lack of focus and feeling like he couldn't possibly be able to emote love and romance at his current state, but taking Teen Angel into consideration. Finn, after being persuaded by Artie and surprise guests Mercedes and Mike, gets into directing the musical despite a shortage on possible Danny's. Meanwhile, Will and Emma turn to Coach Bieste for help with their rift left by their fight over Will going to Washington to join the Blue Ribbon panel for the Arts. After a little talking, Emma agrees to move with Will, and things are back on the up and up.
