The 48 Hour Film Project (48HFP) invites filmmakers from all over the world to compete in an exciting, fast-paced, virtual reality film-making contest to be held November 08-10, 2013. Films must be captured within a motion capture environment (e.g., Open Sim, Second Life, etc.) and/or animated software machinima (e.g., iClone, World of Warcraft, Moviestorm, Muvizu, etc.)

VON USSAR danceworks presents the 7th Annual Dance Gallery Festival, featuring original works from emerging and renowned choreographers from around the country in three performance programs tonight, October 11, 12, and 13, 2013 at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, 405 W. 55th Street, NYC (at Ninth Avenue). The Dance Gallery Festival will perform onFriday, October 11 at 7:30pm and Sunday, October 13 at 3pm. The Dance Gallery UP Close will perform on Saturday, October 12 at 7:30pm. Level UP will perform on Sunday, October 13 at 7pm.

The Civilians, the award-winning New York-based theatre company, announces the members of its 2013-14 R & D Group. The group's emerging and established artists were selected from over one hundred applicants. The R & D Group is comprised of artists from multiple theatrical disciplines. Each artist or creative team will develop an original work over the season. The artists and projects were selected to represent a range of different strategies for making new work from creative inquiry and research. This diversity of approach helps feed a culture of innovation in the group, making the R & D Group an effective lab of experimentation for the field of investigative theater.

There will be a memorial celebration for Paul Szilard (Dancer, Producer, Impresario and great friend to the arts) on Thursday, October 31st, 2013 at 1:30 pm at The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue at 18th Street, NYC. There will be performances by the Martha Graham Dance Company, The Avlin Ailey American Dance Theater and Universal Ballet's Kirov Academy of Ballet; as well as reflections from some of his friends.

Bay Street Theatre is pleased to announce that Scott Schwartz, a leading voice of the next generation of American theater, has joined Bay Street as its new Artistic Director. Schwartz is an internationally acclaimed artist whose work has been seen on and off Broadway, across the United States, in Great Britain, and Asia. Paul Szilard died peacefully at home on Friday, 26 July 2013, at the age of 100. He was born in Budapest, Hungary (August 24, 1912) and became a United States citizen in the 1950's. A former leading dancer, Paul Szilard has performed throughout the world with such famous dancers as Nora Kaye, Colette Marchand, Sonia Arova and others.

GLENVIEW, Ill., July 16, 2013 - Recently, the Glenview Park District opened the doors to the Glenview Prairie Club Golf & Paddle. Northrop at the University of Minnesota and Emily Johnson received a $30,000 MAP Fund grant to support the incubation and development of Emily Johnson's SHORE, set to premiere at Northrop in June of 2014 and a $155,000 Doris Duke Residency to Build Demand for the Arts to support a partnership between Northrop and Johnson designed to create greater demand for contemporary dance throughout the region, particularly in Native American communities. Johnson will work in residence at the University of Minnesota's Institute for Advanced Study during 2013-14.

Guild Hall, the visual and performing arts center on eastern Long Island, recently honored the recipients of the 28th Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Awards: John Alexander for Visual Arts; Walter Isaacson for Literary Arts; Nathan Lane for Performing Arts and Mickey Straus, who received the Special Award for Leadership and Philanthropy. Marshall Brickman was the Master of Ceremonies with special guest presenters: Ken Auletta, Alec Baldwin, Jack O'Brien and Lorne Michaels. Conductor Charles Dutoit returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall, leading the LA Phil in three performances, Thursday through Saturday, February 14 through 16, at 8 pm. The Valentine's weekend program features Gautier Capucon, considered one of the most captivating cellists of his generation, performing Strauss' thrilling Don Quixote, along with LA Phil Principal Viola Carrie Dennis. The program also includes Mendelssohn's evocative Hebrides Overture and Mozart's Symphony No. 29, K. 201.

Although statistics report that over 700 people give up reading the Bible every day in America, one Christian church in NJ is bucking the trend. Recently, church leaders challenged congregants at Liquid Church in Morristown, Nutley and New Brunswick to devote 40 days to reading through the New Testament by Easter (March 31, 2013). In response, over 3,300 adults and children have begun to read the Bible cover to cover during the season of Lent.

The show will air live from the Miami Book Fair International where he will talk about his passion for literacy and for families reading together.
