Park Avenue Armory Hosts Additional Concert as Part of Tune-In Music Fest

Park Avenue Armory has announced an additional concert in the line-up for its second Tune-In Music Festival, featuring four artists whose critical thinking and output have influenced and been influenced by Philip Glass and whose eclectic offerings represent a wide range of musical styles and genres. The Armory's Tune-In Music Festival will be held February 23-26, 2012, featuring and co-curated by the iconic composer Philip Glass on the occasion of his 75th birthday. The Armory's soaring 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall, with its cathedral-like acoustics and informal character, will set the scene for a concert environment that is at once both immersive and intimate, erasing the confines and eliminating the formalities of traditional concert halls. FEINSTEIN'S AT LOEWS REGENCY will close their Fall 2011 season with the return engagement of the club's founder MICHAEL FEINSTEIN and Tony Award winning Broadway legend BARBARA COOK from November 29 to December 30. To celebrate Barbara Cook's 2011 Kennedy Center Honor, the club is rolling back prices to when the club opened in 1999 for the month of December: $60 cover and no minimum. Their show will feature gems from the great American songbook by Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington and Rodgers & Hart, in addition to Broadway hits and holiday classics. Park Avenue Armory announced its first full season of cultural programming, comprising productions of visual art, dance, theater and music that are conceived and performed 'outside the box' of conventional theaters and museums. Dedicated to presenting works that cannot be realized in traditional institutions, Park Avenue Armory's season will include monumental, immersive installations by visual artists Peter Greenaway and Ryoji Ikeda; Tune-In, a contemporary music festival featuring new music ensembles curated by and including eighth blackbird, the New York premier of Inuksuit by John Luther Adams and a new site-specific commission by Sympho; a six-week residency by the Royal Shakespeare Company in a full-scale Shakespearean theater built inside the Drill Hall; and free-form performances by Shen Wei Dance Arts, Streb, and the Merce Cunningham Dance Company. With its soaring 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall and array of dramatic period rooms, the Armory's unique spaces enable artists to create-and the public to experience- unconventional work in all genres that could not be realized elsewhere in New York City. Little Italy Presents DOWNSTAIRS AT THE GROTTA

The legendary Grotta Azzurra Ristorante, located on the corner of Broome and Mulberry Streets in one of lower Manhattan's historic neighborhoods - Little Italy -- is transforming its famous lower-level 'grotto' into an intimate live music room on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 PM starting in mid-December. The policy will be a $20 cover charge plus a two drink minimum. Dinner at this fabled Italian restaurant will be available upstairs in the main dining room at 6 PM. A limited snacks menu will be available in the 'grotto" during the performances. The capacity of the 'grotto" is 50 people. (more...)
