Writers Theatre presents the World Premiere production of Days Like Today, with music and lyrics by Alan Schmuckler and book by Laura Eason, directed by Artistic Director Michael Halberstam, music direction by Doug Peck and choreography by Tommy Rapley. Acclaimed Off-Broadway theater company Playwrights Horizons just held its annual Spring Gala on Monday evening, May 5 at the event space 583 Park Avenue. Titled 'IN THE BEGINNING', the evening honored the theater company's Founding Artistic Director Bob Moss. An artistic director, stage director and teacher for thirty-seven years, Bob founded Playwrights Horizons in 1971 and gave the theater its unique and enduring mission. Three years later, Bob moved the theater to then-derelict West 42nd Street. He founded the 42nd Street Gang, which, with the 42nd Street Development Corporation, envisioned and spearheaded the renovation and creation of 42nd Street's Theatre Row, and gave Playwrights a permanent home. He served as the company's Artistic Director for ten years through 1981. He was also the director of the Playwrights Horizons Theater School, an affiliate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. He continues to direct and teach at theaters and colleges across the country, and has mentored hundreds of young theater actors, writers and directors. (more...)

Kicking off Asia Week 2014, the historic Bohemian National Hall (BNH) presented its first annual Asia Art Fair and opened with an elegant private reception on Friday, March 14 for VIP guests to get a first look at the exquisite offerings from 27 of the most prestigious galleries from around the world. Joseph Balaz, President of the Bohemian Benevolent and Literary Association, presented a $5000 check to the American Fund for Czech and Slovak Leadership Studies at the opening night benefit of the Asia Art Fair. Paris celebrates Robert Wilson. In November, he will be directing famed dancer and actor Mikhail Baryshnikov and world-renowned actor Willem Dafoe in The Old Woman, an adaptation of the work by Russian author Daniil Kharms, at Theatre de la Ville and Christopher Knowles in The Sundance Kid is Beautiful at The Louvre. Mr. Wilson will be the Louvre's artist in residence from mid-November 2013 to mid-February 2014 with exhibitions of Living Rooms and his voom portraits of Lady Gaga. In December, his Peter Pan with the Berliner Ensemble will be at Theatre de la Ville, and in January, his iconic opera with Philip Glass, Einstein on the Beach, will return to Paris at the Theatre du Chatelet. In February, his Madama Butterfly will be at the Paris Opera Bastille. Honored in France as Commandeur de la Legion d'Honneur, he is a member of the Arts Arena Advisory Council and will receive an Honorary Doctorate from the Sorbonne University in November. (more...)

The Park Avenue Chamber Symphony ( under the direction of David Bernard, performed works by Dvorak, Brahms, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky at Carnegie Hall in NYC on Sunday, October 27th at 2PM. This performance featured 11 year old pianist/prodigy Daniela Liebman making her Carnegie Hall debut in a performance of Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2, as well as violinist Jourdan Urbach performing Brahms Violin Concerto. On October 27th at 2PM, the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony led by music director David Bernard returns to the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage at Carnegie Hall for a program of Dvorak, Brahms, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky. Featured in the Brahms Violin Concerto is 21 year old Jourdan Urbach, making his third appearance at Carnegie Hall with Bernard and the Park Avenue Chamber Symphony. If you have ever wondered how many calories you are consuming in your cocktail, there are calorie counts on their bar menu for two of their drinks; the Windsor, Voli Vodka, fresh cucumber juice, agave and lime juice, only 90 calories and the Bling, Voli Vodka, cinnamon infused agave, fresh apple and lime juice, 92 calories (both $12.00). While there are more cocktail products and recipes that tout low calorie choices available on the market, finding this information on The Windsor's menu is unique to the New York 'Cocktail Culture' and very welcome.
