BWW Review: A Joyous COME FROM AWAY at SHEA'S BUFFALO Theatre
by Michael Rabice - Oct 16, 2019

COME FROM AWAY has come to Buffalo. The show with that rather odd title that has been beguiling audiences since it's inception and doesn't have the same name recognition as HAMILTON fully deserves to be placed among HAMILTON's ranks. When the brilliant tour opened at Shea's Buffalo Theatre on Tuesday night I have feeling that most people in the audience had no idea what they were about to see (and quite honestly, may only have been in the audience because they kept their subscription from last season that guaranteed a seat for HAMILTON. ) What played out over the next 100 minutes was one of the most captivating and ingeniously told pieces of theatre seen in many years.

Documentary YOU ARE HERE, Based On Same Events As COME FROM AWAY, Lands in Cinemas On 9/11
by Tori Hartshorn - Jul 1, 2019

On September 11, 2001, global chaos ensued as the World Trade Center Towers came crashing down, and the fate of airline passengers en route to America was literally thrown off course. When 38 planes carrying 6,500 individuals arrived at Gander, Newfoundland, the eastern-most point of North America, the small Canadian town came together to host a group of strangers who would leave as family. 'You Are Here,' from award-winning producer Peter Gentile, which was influenced by the same events that inspired the hit Broadway musical 'Come From Away,' will show in nearly 800 U.S. movie theaters as a one-night event on September 11, 2019.

BWW Feature: MICHAEL KAHN & FRIENDS, Off The Record At The Shakespeare Theatre Of Washington
by Mary Lincer - May 21, 2019

The fun of an evening such as this week's 'Michael Kahn & Friends, Off the Record: The Lansburgh Years, 1992-2007' derives from the relaxed, unscripted content provided by those who usually offer scripts to an audience. The three actors and one former administrative colleague who joined Kahn at the Harman Wednesday to visit memory lane required little prompting by moderator Tom Story to recall and reminisce about their work with the Shakespeare Theatre Company during the Lansburgh Years. Once Story asked each to remember his/her first meeting with Michael Kahn, a series of photos of past productions drove the evening of anecdotes.

BWW Review: Texas Light Opera Inagural Production of THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a Winner
by Frank Benge - Mar 4, 2018

THE LAST FIVE YEARS is a 2001 off-Broadway musical by Jason Robert Brown that took the author's own failed marriage to Theresa O'Neill as inspiration for this intimate yet powerful musical. It was also adapted into a film in 2015. The story is a look at the five-year relationship between Jamie Wellerstein, a rising novelist, and Cathy Hiatt, a struggling actress. Structurally, it is unique in that the story is not only mostly sung through, with just the barest of spoken dialogue, but also in how it tells the story from two different perspectives. Jamie (Joseph Urick) tells the story chronologically, while Cathy (Ginger Martel) tells the story backward. They only sing together once, during their wedding in the middle of the show. While the characters do sing together at the end, the songs are counterpoint to each other rather than both characters singing the same song. THE LAST FIVE YEARS is the inaugural tour being presented by ARIA Creative in association with the newly formed Texas Light Opera.
