Miss Oklahoma and Miss Oklahoma Teen 2015 Pageants Set for This Month

For years, the Miss Oklahoma Pageant was held in Oklahoma City. It was held at the First Christian Church since 1952. The pageant moved to Tulsa in 1964 and was held in the Civic Center. Toni Spencer was the Executive Director and Ralph Blane as the Producer/Director. Miss America 1958 Marilyn Van Derbur was the mistress of ceremonies and it was televised statewide. The Kiwanis Club of Tulsa became co-sponsor of the pageant in 1966, and took over full sponsorship in 1972 with Charles Welch as the Executive Director. Today the Executive Director is Kay Alexander.
Oklahoma City Lyric Theatre to Present BIG FISH

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will produce Big Fish, a new Broadway musical with a larger than life story, this summer at the Civic Center Music Hall. Based on the Daniel Wallace novel that inspired the Tim Burton film of the same name, Big Fish runs July 21 through 25. The show will star Broadway's David Elder and Tony Award nominee Emily Skinner as Edward and Sandra Bloom, respectively.

Lyric's OKLAHOMA! to Run 6/23-27 at Civic Center Music Hall

OKLAHOMA!, the musical that originated the state song and revolutionized musical theatre, comes sweeping down the plain to the Civic Center Music Hall this summer. Running June 23 through 27, Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma's production brings together a cast and creative team with Oklahoma roots. The show is the first of four Lyric productions at the Civic Center in 2015.

The Muny announced today its 2015 production of Oklahoma! will feature the Laurence Olivier Award-winning and Tony Award® nominated choreography of Susan Stroman. The Muny is honored to be the first theater in the world to recreate this extraordinary choreography, last seen in 2004. The Muny production will be directed by Rob Ruggiero, with music direction by Kevin Stites. Ms. Stroman's work will be recreated by Ginger 'Rodgers & Hammerstein's score is everything you dream a musical should be,' said Susan Stroman.

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma will open its much-anticipated 2015 Season with six unique contestants vying for Miss Glamouresse in PAGEANT, a musical comedy beauty contest. Opening at Lyric's Plaza Theatre January 28 and running through February 15, PAGEANT's contestants experience the thrill of success and the agony of defeat every night as each audience chooses their own winner. After successful runs of this show in 2004 and 2006, Lyric is excited to bring this crowd pleaser back to Oklahoma City.

Torrance Theatre Company celebrates its 15th anniversary by saddling up at the James Armstrong Theatre and presenting OKLAHOMA! with music and lyrics by one of Broadway's most influential duos, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein. Based on Lynn Riggs' stage play, Green Grow the Lilacs, OKLAHOMA! marked the duo's first collaboration and set the standard for modern musical theatre. Although not the first musical to tell a story of emotional depth and psychological complexity, OKLAHOMA! introduced a number of new storytelling elements and techniques including the use of song and dance to convey plot and character rather than act as a diversion from the story, and the firm integration of every song into the plot-line. And most important, they introduced a new element to musical theatre: social commentary.
