A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM to Launch Houston Ballet's 2014-15 Season; Lineup Announced!

From September 4-14, 2014, Houston Ballet launches its 45th season with the company premiere of John Neumeier's three-act ballet A Midsummer Night's Dream. The ballet is based on Shakespeare's lighthearted play of the same name and follows the hijinks and hilarity that ensues when a well-intentioned plan with a love potion goes awry. Created in 1977, A Midsummer Night's Dream has served as Mr. Neumeier's calling card, being seen as one of his most joyous and popular creations. Houston Ballet is the first American ballet company to perform the famous work and it is the first piece by Mr. Neumeier to enter the Houston Ballet repertoire.

The Old Globe to Launch Free San Diego Tour of ALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL This Fall

The Old Globe today announced the creation of an exciting new producing platform, Globe for All. This free-of-charge tour of a professional production of Shakespeare will allow the theatre to serve more communities throughout San Diego by collaborating with a diverse range of local organizations. Old Globe Artistic Director Barry Edelstein will direct the first production, Shakespeare's fascinating romance All's Well That Ends Well. He plans to cast local professional actors, including recent graduates of the Old Globe/University of San Diego M.F.A. Program in classical acting. The first Globe for All free Shakespeare tour will begin October 28 and will culminate in three low-cost performances in the Globe's Hattox Hall November 7-9.

Disney's THE LION KING Comes to Boston Opera House, 9/9-10/12

HERE announces its 2014-2015 producing season, commencing Labor Day Weekend with the premiere of the Artistic Director production, Trade Practices, by Kristin Marting & David Evans Morris; and followed by the HERE Resident Artist productions Send for the Million Men by Joseph Silvosky and Bloowst windku by Rebecca Davis. HERE's upcoming season also includes the third annual PROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/ Now festival and HERE's yearly CULTUREMART festival, which gives audiences a first look at new work in process from artists in the HERE Artist Residency Program (HARP). The multidisciplinary productions in HERE's 2014-2015 season represent the culmination of commissions and developmental residencies of up to three years through HARP, and/or the Dream Music Puppetry Program.

Shakespeare in Love, starring Tome Bateman and Lucy Briggs-Owen, is currently in preview performances at the Noel Coward Theater in London and officially opens on Wednesday, July 23rd. But its journey to West End was not as easy as one would think. A few years ago, Academy-Award winning scriptwriter of Shakespeare in Love Tom Stoppard agreed to write a stage adaptation of his honored and beloved 1998 Oscar-winning film. In a recent interview with the New York Times, he revealed that he quickly realized that the task was much too difficult; he feared that the play would be a disappointing version of a project that he (and audiences worldwide) treasure so deeply.
