Paula Vogel's play, THE OLDEST PROFESSION, is set in 1981, shortly after the election of Ronald Reagan. Set in a park, the play examines the lives of five 'working girls' at the end of their very long careers. The "girls" are Mae, a madam, and her stable: Ursula, Lillian, Vera and Edna. In between appointments with their gentlemen, the women reminisce about their early days in New Orleans' Storyville and review their finances and options today. Their clients are literally a dying breed: one has been kidnapped by his children, another thinks it's 1940 and is paying with silk stockings, some are hospitalized and may not be coming out. The financial situation is grave for Mae's stable. These girls aren't getting any younger.
Hearts Taken Captive in the Tragedy of War...
The four years of the American Civil War changed a country forever. North against South, brother against brother, ideals and politics, ethics and humanism met in a mighty clash that still resonates today. The lives of civilians were uprooted and torn apart, even as many foresaw the birth of a new nation and a new way of life. 'A Voice in the Wind' is the story of David, a shy young schoolteacher from New Hampshire, who is swept up in the maelstrom of war. The daily struggles, sufferings, and triumphs of a historic period are shown through David's eyes, and through his journal he keeps detailing his experiences.
Come along on a timeless journey of love, endurance, and the transcendence of the human spirit against all odds as David's life is changed by battle, by the shortages and privations of war, and by the great men and remarkable scoundrels who change his life...and who change the course of American history.
'A Voice in the Wind' is available in both print and ebook formats.

About The Author:
Donald Risho's life has been dedicated to creative expression, including twenty-five memorable years in Cape Cod, Massachusetts where he studied painting. Donald had the opportunity to live without a television, a telephone, or a car, allowing him the space and stillness to meditate and work from the heart. These years focused Donald's belief that all creative work is an outward expression of the soul. A cross-country bus trip in 1981 gave Donald a first-hand experience of the panoramic landscapes of America, and a Civil War love story came to his mind, sparked by the hours of travel and the sights he absorbed. He spent two decades researching and writing 'A Voice in the Wind.' This is his debut novel.

This is a sensational piece of theatre, unlike any other, moving, informative, enlightening, funny, sad, and poignant,
Pompoms, popularity, sorority life and a mid-life crisis are just the tip of the iceberg in VANITIES, the musical. VANITIES, a play by Jack Heifner, opened Off-Broadway at Playwrights Horizons in New York in 1976. The cast included Kathy Bates as Joanne, Jane Galloway as Kathy and Susan Merson as Mary. In 1981, the play was taped and televised on HBO starring Annette O'Toole, Meredith Baxter Birney and Shelley Hack. Needless to say, this script is powerful. The musical was adapted by Jack Heifner with music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum. When a popular play is transformed into a musical, I am doubtful, but this musical had its moments.

Maria Callas got the world used to hearing singing that was not always pitch-perfect yet still essential listening. I kept thinking about this at the Met the other night during the new production of Rossini's LA DONNA DEL LAGO with a cast headed by a couple of stars, mezzo Joyce DiDonato and tenor Juan Diego Florez, who are well known for their bel canto style.
