Tony Award nominees Carolee Carmello (Parade, Scandalous), Mary Testa (Xanadu, 42nd Street, On the Town), Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde, Spider Man: Turn Off the Dark), with Beth Malone (Fun Home) and Jill Paice (An American in Paris), starred in Town Hall's Broadway by the Year Series last night, February 27, in 'The Broadway Musicals of the 1920s.' The Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, located at The Graduate Center, CUNY, announces its Spring 2017 season of free public programs. The season features free public programs, welcoming and celebrating contemporary theatre and performing artists from around the world.

The Hypocrites welcomes David Cromer back to Chicago for a dynamic reading of Our Town. Many of the original 2008 cast returns for this extremely special benefit event.

A sense of fulfillment fills his body as he sees his reflection in the hazy mirror. The music begins, and he suddenly feels completely comfortable in a place he only arrived at a few weeks prior. Each beat of the song sends pulses through the somewhat scratched up flooring, up through his bare feet, taking over his entire body. His demeanor is peaceful, passionate and powerful as he commands his way across the floor with the other dancers, each movement a new discovery in his mind. As the combination comes to an end, finishing with a grand jeté into a graceful arabesque par terre, 18 year old Nick Nazzaro remains in disbelief that he is spending his days dancing in the city of his dreams.

The Central Works 2016 Season closing production of Karen Zacarias' a new play Into the Beautiful North, has extended and must close November 20 (originally scheduled to close Nov. 13). Central Works' first partnership with the National New Play Network was met with a tremendous response from the press and audiences alike. Described at its premiere as possessing the "alchemy of inspired satire, turned into a laugh-filled theatrical experience" and "never allowing the humor to blind us to the plight of its characters...".  Into the Beautiful North is based on the novel by Pulitzer Prize finalist Luis Alberto Urrea and inspired by the classic Hollywood western The Magnificent Seven.

Portland Center Stage at The Amory continues its Northwest Stories series with Bekah Brunstetter's The Oregon Trail, opening on the U.S. Bank Main Stage on November 4, with previews beginning October 29 and performances through November 20.

New York's Broadway and London's West End have long been the biggest destinations for live theater, and now, a new exhibition opening at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts honors the rich creative talent and award-winning productions in both cities. Co-curated by The Library for the Performing Arts and the V&A, where the exhibition debuted earlier this year, in partnership with the Society of London Theatre (SOLT), Curtain Up: Celebrating the Last 40 Years of Theatre in New York and London highlights how the theatre districts of both cities have flourished and developed since 1976. The exhibition, which opens at The Library for the Performing Arts in Lincoln Center onOctober 31, 2016  and is on display through June 30, 2017.

The Hypocrites is pleased to launch its 2016-17 season with the Chicago premiere of YOU ON THE MOORS NOW, Jaclyn Backhaus's comical mash-up of mythology and 19th century literary heroines, directed by Devon de Mayo. YOU ON THE MOORS NOW will play September 9 - October 30, 2016 at The Den Theatre's Heath Main Stage, 1329 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. The Public Theater kicks off the 2016-17 season this month with a free Public Works musical adaptation of TWELFTH NIGHT, conceived by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub, with music and lyrics by Shaina Taub.

The York Theatre Company, dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, announced today the establishment of The Riki and Bob Larimer Fund, a major gift in the amount of $500,000 to be given over a 5-year period and to be put toward the development of new works for the York stage, and marketing initiatives.

The cast of Chicago, Broadway's longest running musical, is celebrating this production's twentieth birthday today! For this momentous day, the cast are taking to the streets, with a free concert at SummerStage in Central Park. Doors open at 7PM and the show begins at 8PM. We were lucky enough to catch up with some of the cast as they made their final preparations for today's show.
